Our house is about 300kms from the Bordeaux/Gironde area and yesterday the air was full of the smell and smog of the smoke. This is the morning, you can usually see for at least 20/25 kms across the hills.

We flew from home (Nice) to Dublin airport for son's wedding in 2022. When we arrived all the poor EU citizens (French & Irish) formed a big queue to get through passport control cos there were so many of them. Husband & I sped through the non EU queue. Only effing Brexshit benefit I've ever seen.

A very stupid thing annoyed me. Scene set in 50s or 60s, big unit w/shelves behind 1 of the 2 De Niro's in his office (dunno which) & U clearly see all the Ikea type holes down the sides of the shelves that U put little metal shelf supports in. Don't think they'd have had that back in the day!

Book 8 of 2025 My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante Absolutely terrific. Slow, thorough, epic story telling. Characters you worry about when you're not reading it! Can't wait to read the other books in the series.
Book 7 of 2025 Parable of the Sower by Octavia E Butler (Audiobook) WOW ! A book written in 1993 which feels like it predicted the future albeit that we're not quite there yet. It starts in 2024 in an America ravaged by climate change and the resulting societal breakdown. Amazing. Please read.
Book No 6 of 2025 The Radleys by Matt Haig Meh.. Found myself hoping it would end ASAP as I read it. Strange because I loved Humans and Midnight Library by the same author. I just don't see the appeal of this story. I didn't like any of the characters and felt no sympathy for anyone!
