Things are getting psychedelic in the next Women of 1000 picture set in Nicaragua. Stay tuned... 🍄🐆
Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you heal well and soon. Here's a pic of my kitty Merlin. He brings lots of joy! And heartbreak when he doesn't want to hang out with me...
Ooh, excited to check this book out! I've got some illustrations of women in African kingdoms from the year 1000 if you're interested in checking them out on my website. womenof1000ad.weebly.com/africa.html
Second place goes to the School of Scottish Studies Archives in Edinburgh! I spent every day here for 3 months during my masters and loved every minute of it.
My favourite archive exterior has got to be Shetland Museum and Archives in Lerwick.
This is the truth! There are trans people included in my Women of 1000 series. You can go to the 'Queer Women' section on this page of the website if you want to learn more about their stories. womenof1000ad.weebly.com/women-by-the...
Still plugging away at The Jaguar Within for Women of 1000 research. For fiction, I'm enjoying Automatic Noodle by Annalee Newitz. Service Model by Adrian Tchaikovsky got more tedious as it went on, so this is a very different take on post-apoc robots to read after it. Plus, the cover rocks!
Seriously depressing to see generative AI art used in presentations at @imc-leeds.bsky.social this year. Images like this being used to illustrate historical sites are poor methodology.
SO much fun listening to a talk at @imc-leeds.bsky.social about Sophia and Adelheid's role in the election of Henry II in 1002. Laurence Leleu argues that they were originally on opposing sides of the conflict before an incident at one of their feasts in April 1002. Here's my pic of the sisters!
What's everyone reading, heading into the weekend? I've got a thesis read, a Women of 1000 read, and a fiction for fun read!
🌈 If you see this, quote with your art to celebrate Pride 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
I included these socks in this illustration of a Persian noblewoman, Cihrzād duxt bin Silēxūr!
What a stunning reconstruction, engagingly presented!! My fave images are this rather sapphic Mary and Elizabeth, the lost pilgrims with their hats, and the Miracle of the Dyer!
Post the best picture you have ever taken of your pet (if you feel like it):
What is everyone reading? I'm taking notes for my thesis on this great new book about relationships and family in Scotland.
Join me in the Andaman Islands for the latest Women of 1000 AD story~ womenof1000ad.weebly.com/yare.html #MedievalSky #Skystorians 🗃️ Thanks to @norree.bsky.social for help adjusting the scan!
My great-aunt Ann was one of these women! Here she is with her mother, my great-grandmother Margaret Campbell, in the 1980s. Both Margaret and Ann lived to 100! Aunt Ann was a real character. She never married - "And it wasn't that I wasn't asked!" and travelled the world skiing and birdwatching.
I saw people are sharing their header images. Here's mine! You've got women here from pre-modern Peru, Spain, Mexico, Japan, American Samoa, the Netherlands, Mali, the Gila River Indian Community, Afghanistan, and Argentina! #MedievalSky #Skystorians 🗃️
Sneak peek of my next Women of 1000 pic, set in the Andaman Islands over a thousand years ago!
🏳️🌈 Happy Pride from Women of 1000! 🏳️🌈 Guess what ... women have always been queer! That's just history, folks!
Ayy, it's apparently #GlobalAfricaDay! If you want to learn some stories about women of medieval Africa, check out the dedicated section on my website! womenof1000ad.weebly.com/africa.html #MedievalSky #Skystorians 🗃️
Happy #WorldTurtleDay! Here's a piece from 2019 of a little girl encountering a turtle in Ua Huka, French Polynesia, over a thousand years ago. People followed the turtles to settle islands like Ua Huka. 🐢🇵🇫
In the year 1000, their family was granted special aristocratic privileges that would be inherited through her maternal line.
