Just a statement in regards to Furality and age verification. I know my opinion on this crap doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but I wanted to at least reassure anyone who felt similarly.

Definitely has felt a bit weird not going to Furality this year, and part of me is sad I didn’t get to look forward to it and experience it.
Some critters I know already know my stance on things, but I’ll summarise things here for those who don’t know, and to reassure those who feel similarly that they aren’t alone in these feelings.

I couldn’t in good conscience attend Furality, so I didn’t.
Forcing age verification on a largely LGBTQ community who would be vulnerable in the event of data leaks (which have happened in the past) just felt wrong to me, with it being particularly concerning for trans folks and the hellscape that is current politics.
The official statement and higher-ups' defence of the decision rubbed me the wrong way, this whole “It COULD be required in the future so we are conforming in advance just in case” just.. Ugh.

So for now Furality is done for me.
I have had good experiences in the past at Furality, met good people including my best friend there.
I’ll treasure those memories, but the whole event has been soured for me now.
All I can really hope for is that things are handled better in the future.
