A luxury hotel in Ireland has cancelled a "retreat" for a secretive group of wealthy, famous and powerful people founded by billionaire Peter Thiel.

The Powerscourt Hotel was due to host a conference for Dialog in August - but called off the event after hackers released details of its membership and activities last month.

The invite-only organisation, founded in 2006 by Thiel and tech entrepreneur Auren Hoffman, was set to discuss preparing for a third world war, battlefield technologies, nuclear energy and how to build cults, according to a leaked schedule.

Guests would have included a Nato commander and senior Trump administration officials, the Irish Times reported.

Thiel is co-founder of Palantir, a spytech firm that has worked with Israel's military throughout its genocide in Gaza and with US immigration agencies accused of severe human rights violations against migrants and people advocating for their rights.

Prominent Dialog members revealed in the leak include Texas senator Ted Cruz, US treasury secretary Scott Bessent, Israeli finance ministry economist Shmuel Abramzon, actor Josh Brolin, author Sam Harris and longevity influencer Bryan Johnson.

The Powerscourt Estate, which owns the land on which the hotel sits in Co. Wicklow, said it was "relieved and pleased" about its tenant's decision to cancel.

"Following a period of great concern for Powerscourt Estate and on foot of discussions with the Powerscourt Hotel, we are relieved and pleased to announce the Dialog event planned for August at the Powerscourt Hotel has been cancelled," it said in a statement.

"Powerscourt Estate wish to thank all of those who supported us through this difficult and challenging time. Including our staff, neighbours, friends, supporters and legal team."

A hotel spokesperson confirmed the event had been cancelled, adding: "We have no further comment."

"There's a huge correlation between sexual assault and suicide rates," said Josh Connolly, senior vice president of Protect Our Defenders, an advocacy group for victims of military sexual trauma. "It's unambiguous sexual assault rates are higher than in the civilian world."

The Intercept's investigation found suicide is the leading cause of death of Army women.

"I don't think there's a mechanism within the Army for holding itself accountable," said Dunn, who is also representing some of the 80 victims suing Army gynecologist Maj. Blaine McGraw, who was assigned to Fort Hood in 2023; he has since been accused of recording and making harmful physical contact with women during gynecological exams. (The Army did not comment on McGraw's case, which remains ongoing.)

Some women who came forward had gone to McGraw seeking rape kits for sexual assault and say his actions further traumatized and distressed them.

"The potential solution lies with how funding is or isn't tied to oversight," Siegal McIntyre said. "Without Congress doing its job, nothing can change."

Rep. Chrissy Houlahan, D-Pa., a House Armed Services Committee member and Air Force veteran, said The Intercept's findings reflect a broader failure of leadership and oversight.

"This report is staggering, and unfortunately, unsurprising," she said. "Servicewomen consistently bear the brunt of harassment, assault, retaliation, and systemic failures within the ranks, and it is costing them their careers, their safety, and in far too many cases, their lives."

The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act (CLARITY Act) is the most ambitious U.S. effort to date to establish clear federal rules for cryptocurrency. After passing the House of Representatives with strong bipartisan support in July 2025, the bill has encountered multiple setbacks in the Senate. As of early July 2026, it remains on the Senate legislative calendar without a scheduled floor vote, with the August recess representing a critical make-or-break deadline.

Counterfeit Currency:

Bait-and-Switch With crypto, there's a mental "ping-pong" going on. The focus constantly shifts back and forth between the supposed investment (blockchain) and the supposed currency (crypto). Whenever someone starts to focus on one, the conversation is redirected to the other. If the diversion itself becomes the focus, it shifts back again.

This back-and-forth keeps potential victims from asking simple, critical questions:

• How does something that is unlimited in supply, consists only of alphanumeric virtual character combinations, and is inherently worthless become an investment?

• If there is nothing to mine, how does a software code-breaking game create fake coins?

• If the fake investment is already generating "superior" fake currency, why do perpetrators need to sell the fake investment at all?

• Why don't the perpetrators spend their own "superior" fake currency?

• Why would perpetrators accept inferior real currency in exchange for "superior" fake currency?

Eventually, people start to realize the "mental ping-pong" is intentional. The fake investment is used to justify the fake currency, and both serve as mental misdirection to extract real cash from victims.

The victims are left holding the bag of worthless crypto while the perpetrators get away with the real cash. And the few victims who manage to sell or spend their fake currency become part of the scheme themselves, spreading the problem and fueling hyperinflation that hurts everyone.
