I raise children and farm animals, love cooking and gardening, write code to pay the bills, & play music in my limited free time. He/Him/His. Banner: 5 guitars on a black couch Profile: white dude, salt & pepper beard, blue shirt, faded green hat
I came in from work to the smell of tomato soup cooking down with fresh herbs from the garden and rabbit stock. Smokin hot partner who processes rabbits and makes delicious soups? Yeah I'm the luckiest dude in the world. 🌱🍅🍽️🐇 #SmallFarmLife
Time for more pickles and tomato soup. The kids will probably eat all these cantaloupes by Tuesday 😅🌱
Casey. I've got a beautiful 1987 Dakota if you want it that has none of those issues... 5 speed manual, and I re-routed the throttle cable so it works with the aftermarket carburetor without needing to pull a string through the window to get it to move.
Family vacations are always fun and informative when your father-in-law is a mycologist. He took the kids on a mushroom walk this morning. 🍄
Way easier than digging and storing and replanting tubers. Not as flashy but still beautiful and they still attract the pollinators 🌱
The Speckled Sussex hens (the brown and white lady in the front) are probably my favorite - they are the most friendly and curious of the group, and aren't snappy when they're broody. #SmallFarmLife 🐔
I love these beans because not only are they delicious (raw, steamed, sauteed, roasted, pickled canned...), but it's waaay easier as a colorblind person to actually see them. 🌱
Checked in on our 90+ year old neighbor, brought him some squash fritters and coffee, and HAD to take a pic of his garden. I always have garden envy whenever I go over there. 🌱
Can't beat fresh dinners from the backyard* in the summertime 🌱🍽️🍜🐐🧀 #SmallFarmLife *Flour is not from the backyard
Morning visit from a hummingbird before the rain (hopefully) arrives this afternoon 🌱
Gardening and math are both wonderful hobbies! And this is our second year in a row with abysmal golden zucchini harvest so those plants won't be taking up space in our garden next year. 🌱
Not bad for some random pieces of wood and metal we had laying around in the barn. Still needs the counter, shelves, and siding but it's coming together. #SmallFarmLife
🎵 Only two things that money can't buy and that's true love and homegrown tomatoes 🌱
12yo decided to make pickles from the garden harvest this afternoon (and some dried serranos from last summer) 🌱🍽️🥒
Onions are getting close to being ready, squash harvester doing a great job collecting dinner ingredients 🌱
Probably got $20 worth of kale, lettuce and lambs quarters here we grabbed from the garden for salad tonight 😋
This is (one of the reasons) why I don't typically buy cut flowers for birthdays or anniversaries. Seeds and bulbs keep giving, year after year 🌱
12yo: Dad, could you MAYBE not put sooo much kale in the soup tonight? Me: Maybe... 🌱🍽️🍜
I normally post a lot about the food we grow for humans, but would be remiss if I didn't include these workhorses that provide habitat and food for the pollinators that live and visit here 🌱
