Are your berries all up? The heat is still here. My rough and ready ice bed is a huge hit with the editor cats. I’m afraid our entire dining room table has been repurposed to a cooling station. It’s likely we’ll be eating alfresco until the heatwave ends anyway, so they’re welcome to it.

Good morning. Thank you for the share as always. It’s going to be a sweltering 36° here today. And while we don’t have a real harbour like you do, we have a lock. And boats. Lots of boats. I took this just before 10pm yesterday. It was still boiling.

Donald Trump continues to shittify the entire world. There’s a shortage of naphtha, used in ink solvents, forcing this Japanese snack company to bleed the colour out of its packaging. *Naphtha is a by-product of the oil stuck in the wrong side of Hormuz.

I know it’s loud and intrusive to small villages. But carnies do live a challenging life and, as long as there’s no animals involved, a brief escape from reality for the children. Or is this my unconscious bias peeking through? Our village is about to transform for summer and I quite like it.

Well. Not the prettiest loaf I’ve ever baked, but just maybe…

What happens when you mix hot cross bun spices with bread flour and bubbling sourdough starter? Then fold in too many plumped-up raisins during shaping, so not to burst any. Followed by a 36-hour cold ferment in the fridge. Then wake up before 5am to fire up the oven to 250°C? This. This happens…

Aude – Evacuation order in Narbonne due to weather conditions
Situation update at 8:45 PM
The Aude department remains on Orange Alert for rain and flooding until midnight on Tuesday, 20 January. Weather forecasts are being monitored very closely.
Imminent flooding is expected in the department, particularly in two districts of the Narbonne commune. After visiting the crisis centre in Narbonne to assess the situation, the Prefect has ordered the evacuation of the Maraussan and la Mayolle districts for residents in single-story homes. People living in homes with an upper floor must move upstairs.
The FR-Alert system has been activated; affected residents have received an alert message. Evacuees are being directed to the sports park and the Narbonne Arena. 30 soldiers are being deployed on the ground to assist with the smooth running of this evacuation.
Significant rescue and security resources are positioned in parallel:
• 420 firefighters on standby, including 40 nautical specialists and several teams already pre-positioned in Sallèles-d’Aude, Bize-Minervois, Lézignan-Corbières, and Narbonne.
• 127 gendarmes on standby with nautical equipment pre-positioned in Leucate.
• 22 national police officers on standby.
The Prefect once again calls on the population to exercise maximum vigilance and to stay informed via official institutional websites and social networks. Administrations and businesses are asked to prioritize remote work (télétravail) to limit travel and guarantee the safety of staff under their responsibility. Schools will be closed, and school transport suspended.
