This #mermaid is one of the first I did and it’s one of the ones where I tried to think about how her anatomy (breathing) would actually work. She has gills on her ribs, but also no nose. She has a small hole on her forehead that acts as a blowhole so she can peak her eyes above the water.

So for these #mermay #mermaids, I started off with sketches. I must have done a dozen different mermaids, then I picked my faves, and basically left the sketches as they were, just added some shading. These are really more of a shading exercise.

One of the challenge of these #mermaids is the debate of where the gills should go, if they even have any gills. Ribs? Neck? Jaw? Does she have a blow hole instead or none of the above and just comes up to breathe with her mouth. What is your preference in this debate?

This #mermay character design is inspired by @dsv686.bsky.social who suggested I do a Sea Angel mermaid. It was seriously a challenge because this thing is almost completely transparent and the only images of it are when deep sea cameras blow it out with lights. SO I tried. Thoughts?

Tane and Zilu in a showery embrace! I havent drawn them in a while and I miss drawing them. Canonically Zilu actually has very small breasts, but also canonically she can shape shift so... lets just leave it at that for now. XD

My first mermay post and its something I made a while ago :/ oh well. I hope you enjoy it! This is another character I dont have a name for! Or at least I dont remember if I do, so I am open to hearing some name options! What does she look like to you? (Name-wise lol)
