Girl Town | Carolyn Nowak | Jul 12 3.75/5: The problem with short story collections is that sometimes the stories don't follow a narrative curve. They feel like an introduction, or they don't have a resolution. Some of these stories were nice, don't get me wrong! But some felt incomplete.
Illuminae | Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff | Jul 11 4.75/5: Got rec'd this by my boss and my sister and devoured most of it in a day. Apparently I really like sci-fi, especially when it involves space wars. I would die for Kady. Also, laughed out loud at some parts and was absolutely Gagged in others

Patsy | Nicole Dennis-Benn | Jul 10 3.5/4: The MC leaves her daughter behind when she illegally migrates to America. This one was complicated, because we saw both the mom and daughter's separate queer journeys, including both of them struggling with being abandoned by their most important people.
btw I had a dream that i was in some big facility with a bunch of people and we kept being randomly chosen to be taken away (don't remember where we went but it Wasn't Good) and Dan and Phil were there wearing these outfits and cuddling cause they were scared (Dan was little spoon)
Circe | Madeline Miller | Jul 6 5/5: I love a good retelling of a myth, especially ones about women's rights and wrongs. Plus multiple mentions of Achilles and Patroclus, and the quote that made me cry: "I'm the son of a great hero and a greater goddess." Now I need Miller to write so much more.
Deep End | Ali Hazelwood | Jul 4 4.5/5: I don't have anything witty to day about this one. I liked it! Not often you read a book about a competitive diver. Also, kudos to the negotiation and respect for kink- although imho they could have definitely gone kinkier.
My bank finally let me dispute the charges but it may take 10 business days to even hear back from the dispute team. In the meantime, I still haven't been able to pay rent. Thank you to anyone who has helped already, but I still need help.
Young World | Soman Chainani | Jul 2 4/5: Pretty good if you suspend a lot of disbelief. 17 year old boy stumbles into the presidency because he's horny. Not a revolution (the system doesn't change) and nothing like the Hunger Games (as advertised). Still a fun YA political thriller.

The Spirit Bares its Teeth | Andrew Joseph White | Jun 29 5/5: I've learned I will absolutely devour anything by this author. He has a way of writing the most captivating horror novels while giving complex gender nonconformist, sexual, and disabled representation. Not for the faint of heart.
Stonewall | Martin Duberman | Jun 28 This read more like a biography of six people (three weren't even at Stonewall during the riots) and Stonewall only took up about 50 pages. But if you want to read about what life might have been like for queer people before 1969, this is a solid read.
You Will Get Through This Night | Daniel Howell | Jun 25 I put off reading this for years because I didn't feel like I needed it but finally got the audiobook (with bonus content!). And you know what? I learned some stuff. Like exercising positive thinking and gratitude literally rewires the brain.
