Of the comics I’ve read this week, Imperial and Marvel Knights: The World To Come were standouts by far. Both telling stories with a level of maturity that you rarely see in the superhero genre. The back matter in the MK series reading like academic essays was incredible. More like this PLEASE!!
More comics and more comics and MORE COMICS…!! Here’s the comics I’ve been catching up with over the past couple days. Next up is all the Ultimate universe stuff.
Started reading a new book today: An Amerikan Family: The Shakurs And The Nation They Created by Santi Elijah Holley
Been slowly but surely catching up on the comics I read digitally, which is just Marvel and DC stuff. Marvel was up first, so here’s some of what I’ve been reading lately.
🌶️ Spicy Margarita 1 1/2 oz. Tequila 1 oz. Smirnoff spicy tamarind vodka 3/4 oz. Triple sec 3/4 oz. Fresh lime juice 1/2 oz. Simple syrup Shake with ice and strain into a glass. Lime wheel to garnish.
That Star City finale absolutely ripped. I’m definitely gonna need a season 2. I love how they made this show to have a completely different vibe from For All Mankind but were able to make the last handful of episodes just as intense.
Just finished reading Dawnrunenr by Ram V and Evan Cagle. This one’s got people piloting mechs to fight giant aliens and is a story about loss and how you can’t save everything, but you try your damn best and save what you can anyways. If you like Pacific Rim or Evangelion, this is for you.
S3 of Foundation kinda slaps so far??? Like more than I was expecting. I thought s1 was solid, s2 kinda floundered a bit but was still good. But damn if s3 hasn’t stepped it up.
Currently reading: Freedom is a Constant Struggle by Angela Davis
Been reading Vinland Saga this past week. I had read the first couple volumes years ago and have seen the anime adaptation. So this felt like coming home.
Checking out the Man on Fire remake on Netflix as my next binge watch. What did yall think of it?
Made myself a Paper Plane for the first time. Wasn’t sure if I was going to like it, but it’s a hit! Equal parts bourbon, Aperol, Amaro Nonino, and lemon juice. Served in a chilled coupe glass. A paper plane to garnish.
I too want to live a life as lavish as Berlin. Currently watching s2 cause you know I’m down for a good heist.
Tried making a whiskey sour with the traditional egg white in it for the first time today. The egg white gives it the foam on top and a velvety feeling in your mouth. Not sure how I feel about it yet. May have to have a few more. Cheers!
About a month ago I started watching s2 of Bloodhounds, one of my favorite recent k-dramas. Had to cancel my Netflix account for a bit, but I finally have it back and I am so ready to binge this show! 🫶🏻🫶🏻
This comes out in my birthday month in case anyone wants to sacrifice their retirement and kids’ college fund for a good cause.
People keep talking about how good Matthew Rhys has been in Wodow’s Bay, but both Kate O’Flynn and Stephen Root are also absolutely crushing it as well. Top tier stuff.
Catching up on Widow’s Bay. This is a special one. Just got to the episode Ti West directs.
Spent the last hours catching up on some comics. Currently reading The Department of Truth, a series I’m probably gonna have to reread 2-3 times once it’s all out to truly appreciate it.
Starting Spider-Noir. In black and white. 🕷️🕸️ So stoked for this one. 🖤
Just got back from seeing I love Boosters, the new film from Boots Riley. It was batshit crazy and Ioved it. It was everything from Fantastic Mr. Fox to Willy Wonka, Dr. Suess, Robot Chicken and more put in a blender and made into something so creatively different. It’s a visual anomaly.
New Ecca Vandal album is on blast today. open.spotify.com/album/6S7mwr...
