Something's been bugging me. About a week ago I got jump scared without warning when I clicked on an innocuous user profile. So I'm going to post some recently taken pictures of bugs as a palette cleanser. Namaste.

I've been reading about attachment theory again & decided to take a quiz. The results surprised me, I'm usually squarely in the Fearful quadrant across the board. I think this quiz's methodology is flawed, otherwise I may need to accept that years of therapy had an actual impact. Fucked up if true.

Wow folks, what can you say? Looks great! The show however was somewhat mediocre in the beginning. Kind of meandering, not clear what the point was other than violently slaying a Monster of the Week each episode, and tbh the fight scenes were underwhelming. But then, out of nowhere came an unexpected plot twist! Jun Fudo is a lesbian. My best friend was late-bloomer lesbian who, as I understand it, didn't "switch teams" but rather realized what team she was on at about 30 years old. So she was new to the identity and liked seeing her people in media. So she was stoked about this! And the show handled it tastefully, it wasn't some bullshit fan service thing. About halfway through the show I asked her what she thought. She was cautiously optimistic. Hoping it was gonna stay good, but afraid they'd blow it. The pressure was on: would Devil Lady stick the landing? Or would it blow it like so many shows have?

Now, at this point I'm gonna spare you a lot because, if you'll permit me a substantial understatement, it's a bit of a bummer. The short version is, at this point in time, my friend finally saw a doctor for some strange symptoms she'd been having. And they found cancer. It was very advanced and it was very bad. She died only a month after diagnosis, so she never got to see where the show ended up. Suffice to say, I was sad. It's still sad.

Tbh at first I wasn't sure if that was that for the show. But after a bit I decided to finish it. And you know? I think it was pretty good. Weird as hell sometimes, but good. I think she would have liked it. There are two things notable about the ending. The final showdown is between Jun, now fully embracing her role as DEVIL LADY: THE CHAMPION OF HELL, and Lan Asuka, the "Child of God" set to bring 1000 years of peace to the world, which I guess is bad because it's implied the world will be very boring.

The first thing is funny. The Child of God's presence and the new age of peace is announced to the world by a jubilant, bible thumping AMERICAN PRESIDENT who appears to me to be a pretty clear Ronald Reagan stand-in. Jun ends up slaying Asuka on live television broadcast, which Not-President-Reagan sees and promptly blows his own brains out (off-screen) right in the Oval Office. If that's not a high quality absurd comedy moment, I don't know what is.

The second thing is personal. You see during the show, Jun's closest friend (only friend, really), is killed despite her best efforts to save her. Jun struggles a lot with this, and for a bit it seems she's just going to give up entirely, and let whatever happens happen. It isn't easy for her to to keep going without her friend. And there is no miraculous resurrection in this show. So even though Jun ultimately wins, the closing scene is of her somberly remembering her slain friend, turning her cheek, and disappearing into the background of the world, alone. It's a bittersweet note to end on. And seeing this so soon after my friend's death, with the incomplete watching of this basically being the last we got to do together, it hit home for me. Maybe everyone who has to go one without someone they love can relate. So thank you Jun Fudo, for being a great demon girl, and a character we both got to enjoy!

So just after DGAD last year, I received a request to cover Jun Fudo of the anime "Devil Lady", also known as "Devilman Lady", even though that sounds dumb. I had never heard of it before, so not only did I have to look it up, but I had to figure where the heck to watch it.

So I did what any of us would do in this situation: nothing at all for about eight months. Then one day I was having lunch with my best friend and thought "hey, maybe we should watch it together?" So I explained to her that I'd made this thread about demon girls eight months ago on Something Awful and was now honor-bound to watch this particular anime because someone sent me a PM. Naturally, she agreed. Even better, she had Amazon Prime and they had the show, even though Crunchyroll and Funimation didn't. Shortly after we were introduced to JUN FUDO: THE DEVIL LADY. And we started watching a few episodes every week.

She might not look like a devil. In fact as far as anyone knows she's just your everyday beautiful professional model. Soon enough though, things happen, plot occurs, and she meets LAN ASUKA. Lan takes the role of Jun's mentor/handler with big dommy mommy energy. She reveals to Jun that she bears the mark of the beast can transform into a powerful and sensual demon girl!!!

Folks, I have a confession to make. On May 4, 2021, a thread celebrating Demon Girl Appreciation Day was posted to a forum. I had recently watched Devilman Lady, and spent 2021 drunk, so I wanted to sincerely engage with the thread but was also afraid for my reputation, so I sent a PM to the OP...
