Walking to the shops should be easy- this lorry has forced pedestrians into the carriageway. Visibility is poor and this is across from a children’s centre. Please #Bristol can we ban #pavementparking?
Glad I got out for a short run, but sad to see the toll of the #heatwave on a local park. We need to change the way we live and ensure our #greenspaces are designed for resilience.
The shady parts of my #cyclecommute were so much more pleasant than those in direct sun. We need more #greencorridors to make active travel an enjoyable form of transport.
Very glad I was able to get outside on my bike this afternoon. Too hot, but more shade on the path than the streets and a little breeze. Staying active in the heatwave is possible, but needs to be done carefully.
This is my sport (and) utility vehicle. It took me to and from the gym, on a little bike ride, to the supermarket and home. #womencycling #utilitycycling #tripchaining
Fabulous afternoon panel chaired by @lauralaker.bsky.social on getting kids moving. @willnorman Rezina Chowdury and Sarah Warren. The social media ban is not going to do it on its own, our streets need to be safer for children and young people.
Panel on Carspreading now. Bigger vehicles, higher bonnets, less visibility, higher fatalities. When will this stop? Smaller vehicles, fewer fatalities. @cleancitiescampaign.org
Now the excellent @ianwalker.bsky.social on #motornormativity. There is a need for policy ‘sticks’ to change behaviour of motorists as well as ‘carrots’ for active travel.
More from @aliceferguson.bsky.social and Tim on what needs to change. We need to make our streets less car dominated. @cleancitiescampaign.org
Children are still being killed just walking and biking on their streets. A full classroom each year - Tim Gill @cleancitiescampaign.org
@aliceferguson.bsky.social speaking on the report Streets for Play, Streets for Freedom written with Tim Gill. Children and young people are not considered in planning policy, they are deprived from healthy, active mobility.
First up, Chris Boardman from Active Travel England. Children deserve the ability to cycle safely in their towns and cities. Now is the time for action!
Looking forward to the second day of Curious Cities Assembly @cleancitiescampaign.org - off to a good start with sobering words about the heatwave as well as inspiration for the coalescence of leaders, practitioners and academic experts.
Scary stats re children’s lung capacity when exposed to poor air quality from UCLs Chris Griffiths. Good news is that our cities and #airpollution can decrease with ULEZ improving #activetravel rates and health. @cleancitiescampaign.org
Important to note @metecoban92.bsky.social that #climatechange isn’t affecting everyone equally. It is a racial and social justice issue. We are in the emergency now, it’s not a distant threat.
Fascinating speakers so far, @scarlettmcnally.bsky.social up now with a whirlwind of facts on #physicalactivity and its importance throughout our lives
Watching the start of Curious Cities, @cleancitiescampaign.org Barbara Stoll says “what’s good for children is good for cities.”
Gym, supermarket, chemist- so glad I can reach all of this in a 10 minute bike ride. A #tripchain today for efficiency. #utilitycycling #womencycling #journeysofcare
Lovely wildflowers around new trees in East Bristol. More streets like this please!
What’s wrong with this picture: cycling in a skirt? Non cycling shoes? A break in the rain? Tights in June is the correct answer.
Unless you can cycle with them to training. (To be fair doesn’t work for competitions further afield.)
The gardens behind ours have become home to a fox and her cubs. Seen the little ones playing a lot, but first time seeing them nursing #foxoftheday #citygarden
My legs were glad to #getoutside for a #run this morning, but can’t say the same for my sinuses. Hayfever unpleasant, as well as seeing #flytipping on the path. Makes #greenspace less enjoyable.
My neighbourhood is blighted by #pavementparking and #flytipping, making walking unpleasant and inaccessible for some. Not affecting the carriageway, just the kids, parents, etc walking and wheeling.
New trick for successful #cycle transportation of gym kit and groceries. #utilitycycling #tripchaining #busymum
Some of today’s #utilitycycling, pac-a-mack, petrichor edition. #getoutside #diversifyoutdoors
Excellent start to the weekend with a #run in #greenspace #bluespace. Grateful for easy access from central #Bristol and the path is more accessible with a few bollards removed. #getoutside
Not one, but two red damselflies in my garden this afternoon. #natureinthecity #getoutside
