Been in the studio (phone) making field recordings (I put my phone in the freezer at the corner shop while getting ice cream and made my trainers squeak on the newly moped floor) and I’ve made the feel good noise hit for the summer. It’s going to be big (sell a couple of tapes in Autumn)!

The first track has a chain and fire pit solo with distortion, it’s the most NOISE I’ve ever felt. The loops of wind were inspired by writing on Actress by Dhanveer Singh Brar in Teklife/Ghettoville/Eski: The Sonic Ecologies of Black Music in the Early 21st Century.

'Okay, it's basically like this, he declares, abruptly stopping in his tracks. We're in a narrow alleyway between wooden fences coated in bright green algae. He gestures downwards to the rotting leaves piled up against the fence. 'How these leaves have fallen in this formation - they're brown now, but amongst that you've still got a bit of green or whatever - and how it rests against the backdrop, and the concrete - how things have just fallen. That's how I think about music!’

“There's a bleakness to the UK you don't find anywhere else. From the forgotten industrial graveyard towns with rows of abandoned terraces and steel-boarded windows, to the off-season ghostlands of once-popular seaside haunts - the UK paints a very specific picture of decay.
Other places have the same problems, sure, but the atmosphere here hits different.
BALF'S EASTSIDE captures that feeling in its rawest, most visceral form. This is a stark, colourless listen - nothing but the psychogeographical and societal greys of modern Britain pressed into sound. No gloss. No warmth. Just cold harsh weather and wet concrete.
It's moody and minimal. Bursts of static and hiss drift in before tracks lock into loose, throbbing rhythms that slowly tighten the sense of dread and paranoia.
Everything crackles and shuffles, underpinned by something like a buried bass growl, half-melody, half-threat. Occasionally the cigarette throated gargles of a Silk Cut sucking hag beg for attention, hand outstretched begging for change, only shes not real.
At times it recalls that sweet spot between noise and techno that was popping off about a decade ago where the machines stop feeling musical and start feeling structural, like you're standing inside a collapsing building.
The whole thing feels like watching the decaying skeleton of a seaside pier finally give up on a rainy afternoon, waves smashing into it until the sea slowly claims what's left.
Digital is only available with the cassette, though you can still stream it on Bandcamp. At the time of writing there were only four copies left, so if this is your jam, don't sleep on it.”
