Do look out for the amazing Striped Hawk-moth! David Brown has managed to trap 2 in his Charlecote garden trap recently! He posted “I really hope others would catch some....they are clearly around...Keep trapping and check flowers in your gardens at dusk. Good luck...fingers crossed !” #TeamMoth
The 'green hay' is raked up & this year went to 4 other churchyards to help improve their biodiversity as part of the Churchyard Biodiversity and Heritage Project. - St James in Alveson, St James in Southam, St John's & St Nicholas in Henley-in-Arden & Beaudesert and Tysoe church's.
Our practical #volunteer work party was at St Mary's Church in Oldberrow on Tuesday carrying out the annual churchyard wildflower meadow cut. This is a wonderful biodiverse area we have been helping to manage in partnership with @caringforgodsacre.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social

Our members get to enjoy our wonderful butterfly reserve right next door to Ryton Pools Country Park. This little slice of heaven is peaceful, away from crowds & a place to connect with nature. Find one of our hand made benches tucked away & sit back and enjoy the sounds, sights & ‘feel’ of nature.
A lovely morning spent in ‘Search of the Purple Emperor’ #event at Weston Wood. Sadly only a glimpse at the top of a tree 😭 We had a wonderful group of 12 people enjoying a woodland fluttering with butterflies. 🦋 🌳
Our reserve Ryton Wood Meadows is looking wonderful right now 😀 (though a drop of rain would be welcome). 🦋 Butterflies fluttering across the colourful wildflowers, 🐝 bees bumbling, Hoverflies hovering, Dragonflies zooming around and birds singing. Clip sent in by @wildtara.bsky.social
This morning an unusual aberration of the White Admiral was spotted by Ivor & Tara in Ryton Woods. Known as ‘Nigrina’ where the prominent white bands on the wings are mostly or entirely absent, giving it a nearly solid black upper surface & the nickname "Black Admiral". @wildtara.bsky.social
And then we also have … The Purple Emperor 🦋 A lucky few will see the dazzling blue-purple flash of the males wings as it spirals down from the tree top to feed on minerals in the ground. Males are territorial & don’t like to share their high perches! The female is a brown colour and more polite 😬
The Butterfly year is speeding along! 3 new butterflies have been recorded recently so please welcome… The Gatekeeper 🦋 Likes to hangout by gateways and gaps along hedgerows. Lovely orange colour and watch for the 2 white dots in the black spot. 1st sighting goes to Steve Davies on 16th June

It’s #VolunteerWeek so on our Tuesday practical work party today we celebrated with cake! Everyone at the Warwickshire Butterfly Conservation branch is a volunteer & we couldn’t do anything without them! ❤️ Thank you to all our volunteers for all you do 🙏🦋
The iRecord butterflies free app has an handy quick guide & perfect for recording the sighting once you have figured it out! Large Skippers are orange with a pattern of mottled darker markings on the wings. 🦋 Small Skippers have plain orange wings. 🦋
Heads up. Both Large and Small Skipper butterflies are now out in Warwickshire! 🦋🦋 Large Skipper on 24th May and Small Skipper on 25th May. Best refresh your memories on how to tell than apart - if they ever stop skipping along the top of the meadows! 😆 #skippers #butterflies

A fantastic trip out to Prestbury Hill today 😀 A lovely group of people came out to explore this stunning site for butterflies 🦋 With 15 species of butterfly being seen plus moths. Highlights were the Duke of Burgundy, Marsh Fritillary’s, & oodles of Small Blue. 🦋 More details to follow!

Our Spring Butterfly walk at Bishops Hill NR this morning was a great success 😀 We spotted 12 species & Grizzled Skipper, Dingy Skipper & Green Hairstreak put on wonderful appearances 🦋 I will be sharing photos as they come in 🤞
