And this is an open question. Tell us. Tell me. Because under represented voices are being erased, sometimes deliberately. DEI is a dirty word and archives like the gorgeous and personal essays from the Breaking Ground project are no longer supported. So tell us: do our stories die here?

So we have a wonderful USEFUL archive of data on under represented people and their contributions to the digging sciences. But it’s biased, poorly maintained (sorry) and I haven’t answered your emails (rly, really sorry). Can we save it? Should we save it? How, my lovely community, tf do we do that?

the way you collect data determines what kinda data you collect. Who knew? (Many people). So a survey of our archive is a survey of the data we can reach — it’s most often the history of people who were wealthy and connected enough to be remembered, and it’s pretty white and anglophone
