After my soul dog, Jazz, died in 2018, it took me 2 years before I (reluctantly) agreed with my husband that we should get another dog — presumably to support our child with her anxiety. I still keep Jazz's ashes, collar, and paw print with me. People who say those things have never known that love.

My daughter and I got matching starfish tattoos today. I hadn't planned on getting a tattoo (this is my first!) but I woke up this morning and the first image I had was of a starfish tattoo on the inside of my forearm, so here we are.

View of Gifu Castle from our hotel window. Tonight we will see fireworks, and then cormorant fishing (ukai) on the Nagara River. In Japan, ukai on the Nagara River in Gifu City is historically connected to the imperial family, with fishermen holding the title of Imperial Fishermen.
