This June I decided to finally act on it. I shipped it and a 1948 Parker 51 Demi that was in need of a new diaphragm and also had a dented cap to Mark Harcourt of penden.ca.
After 15 years, my late Grandma’s 1955 Parker 51 Aerometric fountain pen is finally back into service. Nothing was easy about this. I inherited this pen around 2011 as I was getting into pens. It had been clogged with India ink in the past so it was completely unuseable.
V3! I decided to name this a Tiger’s Fang. 1oz lime juice, 1/2oz Ferrand dry Curaçao, 1/2oz green Chartreuse, 1.5oz Trois Rivières Martinique run, 1.5oz Havana Club 7yo Cuban rum, 2oz soursop nectar, 4 dashes Peychaud bitters. Garnished with a lime wheel and amarena cherry.
Seiko gang! I got a Seiko automatic two years ago and it does all I ever want a watch to do. If I’m not wearing that I’m wearing my work beater Casio G-Shock
Flank steak, dry-aged 21 days and marinated with shallot, garlic, red wine vinegar, olive oil, parsley, rosemary , espelette pepper and kampot peppercorn, cooked medium-rare and served with a rosemary compound butter. Safflower rice and a cucumber, tomato and basil salad on the side.
For a while last night I thought this might not work but this morning I realized that it actually would so I went and bought it. Y’all, this is no nice!
Photographer challenge: post a photo you're extremely proud of. This shot from one of my very first rolls of film is the shot that made me understand the depth and detail possible with this analog process. The way the light interacts with the silver grain is simply magical.
Messed around some more with cthe Bender Royale and man that thing gets so gnarly I love it!
That would be my #1, a 2022 Epiphone Crestwood Custom. Those mini humbuckers man, criminally underrated pickups!
I may or may not have bought a new fuzz pedal last night. It had been on my radar for a while, I was planning on buying it later this year but then a practically new unit popped up on Marketplace 👀 It’s angry, spitty and gated, exactly the opposite of the BaT Pharaoh. Sits perfectly with my rig!
Soup’s pretty much done so I’ve turned off the heat and put the lid on in. I’ll bring it back to a boil just before serving :3
Beans have been going for about half an hour, now it’s time for the starch of this soup, pearl barley! I haven’t measured anything in this soup so I just threw in a few handfuls, I want a fairly thick soup.
Ok so the pork simmered for two hours, so I pulled it out of the broth, shredded and chopped it, then back in it went. Replenished about 1L of water that had evaporated, then added in the fava beans and a couple finely diced carrots. More salted herbs, black pepper and a bit of celery seed.
Pork is simmering away, time to prep the fava beans! These are brown fava beans (we call ‘em “gourganes”), less common than the white fava beans that are grown around the world. The pod is fibrous and full of white fuzz, we’ll crack ‘em open and extract the precious beans inside!
First, gotta make the broth. The protein here is pickled pork roll, which will simmer for a couple hours with bay leaf and salted herbs
Order from Penablers arrived! 🦀Looking forward to trying Heimdall, I need a nice orange fountain pen ink. I also already put the Micromesh to good use, getting the tooth out of my Pelikan M600’s nib.
Update! The HVAC guys stopped by and delivered the new unit, they don’t have time to install it today so they’ll be back tomorrow morning. The great news is that it’s not just an AC unit we’re getting, it’s a full on cold weather heat pump!!!
I had a craving for Lebanese food so I made kefta for dinner. Served on pita with tzatziki, tomato and olives.
CW Spider One of the zebra jumping spiders that lives on my balcony managed to sneak into the living room. Promptly relocated her back to the balcony where she can protect my plants from pests
