July 14th 1982 Echo & the Bunnymen at the Haçienda. In the audience - Courtney Love. I discovered this researching my book about her time in Liverpool. Five days after her 18th birthday she travelled over to the Haçienda from Liverpool in the van with the band.
9th July #otd in 1932 the wonderful photographer Shirley Baker was born in Kersal, Salford. Celebrated for her social documentary street photographs, especially of working-class, inner-city areas of Manchester and Salford. She died in 2014.

May 1986 - forty years ago this month I interviewed Dee Dee Ramone. I instigated a conversation about the Cold War. But the conversation floundered. Dee Dee couldn't remember the name of the President of the USSR. "What's his name? Breznikov?" But we found stuff to talk about. Like haircuts.

Morrissey posted this today. Given that I have read or heard Johnny, Mike, and Andy all saying it was Morrissey's idea, and the photographer, Stephen Wright, is on record saying "It was Morrissey's idea to go to Salford Lads Club", I have no idea why he woke up today to make this point.
