Filling out the intake form for a new doctor's office, and I'm just gonna go out on a limb and guess that their patient portal was at least partially coded by AI... This does not inspire confidence in their HIPAA compliance.
This is a lot of rich information about the tech systems, platforms, and contractors working with ICE as of 2024 (the date of the leaked document).
Court packing has real arms race risks compared to jurisdiction stripping. This dismissal of random draw “Super Circuits” is too cursory. A big SCOTUS problem is how 1-2 justices can build to their big bad cases over years of small bad cases. Breaking the ability for 1-2 people to do that has value.
DoD can spend billions on all kinds of random crap for myriad remote contingencies, but they can’t be bothered to get Apple/Google to make a private-by-default implementation of their mobile OS’s for military-issued devices? Like, not even a unique OS; just ship with certain trackers disabled.
At the 0:08 mark, the rapid fire clip shows someone making the white supremacist "ok" hand gesture.
The NYT report actually shortchanges the massive scope of this. This is effectively a complete tax pardon for Trump and his family for anything up to today, regardless of whether IRS had opened an investigation or not. (i.e. “could have been asserted by Defendants”).
Tech execs' refusal to shift from growth to value is a costly midlife crisis. Meta's stock soared despite stupid business decisions, deceiving Zuck to think his every whim was genius. But he failed to see the opportunity costs: how much higher would the stock be if he hadn't burned these billions?
This is the classic Schumer bait-and-switch. Publicly call for something that sounds aggressive, but drop it and negotiate marginal concessions. Then he'll blame Trump for not firing Noem and Miller, while excusing Democrats (after the vote) by saying they don't have the power to get rid of them.
So because of the community‘s strong response, ICE has to commit disproportionate resources for each arrest. That’s a lot of resources they can’t deploy elsewhere. That’s harm reduction. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
NYT headline, of course. Vance dogwhistled at Holocaust deniers, white nationalism, and antisemitism. When the Vice President overtly or covertly allows those views inside mainstream politics, he is taking a side.
Y'all, tmrw is a BIG DAY for civil rights and tech. @markey.senate.gov, @repyvetteclarke.bsky.social, @jayapal.house.gov, @pressley.house.gov, & @repsummerlee.bsky.social are introducing the AI Civil Rights Act: the new gold standard AI bill endorsed by 85+ civil society orgs. Pull up a chair. 1/n
Good example of how an acronym can dehumanize consequences and mask what’s going on. Syntactically, “Diversity slayer,” “equity slayer,” or “inclusion slayer” sounds weird. They aren’t “slaying” these things; they’re promoting and supporting their opposites: segregation, unfairness, and exclusion.
The boomers were out in force in Bethesda. Don’t underestimate the fury of Montgomery County’s legion of retired civil servants. Probably a few thousand people lining Wisconsin Ave.
