Self-Portrait” by David Keegan — acrylic on stretched canvas, 2026 I’ve had this painting inside me for 50 years. I don’t know how many times since I was 5 that I’ve doodled earlier versions of it over the years in scribblers, textbooks, and notebooks. But now, it’s on canvas. I’m so thrilled. 😃
In an order opposite to the usual (i.e. coming *after* text which can be read aloud by software) here is the poem in a image (which still has alt text):
Wow, that rest and reset was really long. It’s good to just listen to your body when recovering from something (and I guess all the time too). Next up: some foam rolling! Feels amazing. I had gotten so tight all over. 8/
1145 - 1200: Dishwasher emptied and reloaded! (I haven’t done this until the very last second for the past three weeks.) 1200 - 1205: heated gel pack to eye (Still pretty heat-intolerant, but less than the past 2 days.) And then will have planned rest to not over do things. 2/
This is my third day of iv ceftriaxone and this is the best I’ve felt in 3 weeks! And just like that, the original London recording of *Jesus Christ Superstar* is selected and a day of restrained activity begins. Let’s see what happens! (I promise I will pace myself!) ✨✨✨ 1/ (updates to come!)
This kind of simple spray bottle can save your life. When it’s super hot, in addition to staying out of the sun, drinking lots of water and avoiding strenuous activities, spraying yourself and others with water and fanning does a great job of cooling you down. At the World Youth Day 2002 in … 1/2
Back in the ED at Rockyview Gen. Hospital again. My eye infection had been gradually improving but worsened again over the past 48 hrs. Getting IV antibiotics now and waiting for repeat CT to rule out orbital cellulitis. Again today, by luck, waiting room empty and no one in line when I arrived. 1/
It was to help me with core development as a hockey goalie. It really helped, the barre work in particular. I wasn’t great at the jumping so started to develop patellar tendonitis. Once I have time, I would do a barre class again in a heartbeat! I think helped my posture too overall.
I hear you. From two years ago. Super hot but so crowded at the Acropolis so N95 mask it was. Alt text: photo of happy guy wearing sunglasses, N95 mask, white t-shirt (to reflect heat), and a backpack holding spray bottle of water and fan, at the Acropolis with a crowd in the background.
I hand out respirator/breatheteq masks to my patients to help them reduce their risk of getting COVID and Long COVID. Here's the letter I've put together about this for parents about children masking. @longcovidresource.bsky.social @longcovidadvoc.com @longcovidkids.bsky.social #longcovid
This is the set-up: - the “patient” and the resident physician are in the well-lit room - you can see their shoes in the pic - I’m in the dark room, watching through the one-way mirror and listening through a speaker - then the resident will join me and I’ll provide feedback 3/
Had a good nap and sleep! Thank you to my friends who helped me in so many ways. Systemic symptoms are gone (at least for now)! Now at the ophthalmologist’s, getting checked out more. They play good music so I’ve been chair dancing. (Had to stop as they called my name for the next text.)
In new spot in the ER. Still feeling much better with those antibiotics in me. 😃
I was so warm. Rebecca RN kindly got me ice packs. The team was aware I had early sepsis before. I was brought to a stretcher and was able to lay fully flat. Phew!
This might be a busy day with some cool news re: preventive care, but pathophysiology can rear its head at any time. 😄 Here I am, checking in at the Rockyview Emergency for this possible early pre-septal cellulitis in my left eye.

I'll keep uploading refinements as they happen. Here's the latest.
I play goal in ice hockey and get very hot, particularly if the arena is warm. Sometimes can’t keep up despite ice cold water + sports drink. I’m drenched in sweat by the end. Someone recommended this and what a game changer: keep me cooler and even enabled me to be faster, stronger, nimbler! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Here’s the final product (along with a bit of @klmuseumarchives.ca Kawartha ice cream! Sooooo yummy!!! 4/4
I forgot to mention about 2 tbsp of lemon juice! Here it is, simmering away! 3/
So I decided I’d better cook them up. Heated up some butter in a saucepan, chopped them up, and put it all in, along with a splash of vanilla extract, 1.5 tbsp of brown sugar, and some ground cinnamon. (More to come….) 2/
I get produce from a company called @oddbunchcanada.bsky.social . It’s a random assortment each week, from imperfect or overstocked produce. Which means I sometimes end up with more of one type of produce than I know what to do with. I have now five types of apples and three types of pears… 1/
