Scientist, mom, creator, nerd. "held under these smothering waves, by your cold and thick-veined hand. But one of these days, I'm gonna wriggle up on dry land" -John Darnielle Signer of the Bethesda Declaration. Views are my own
For these and other offenses, our Founding Fathers separated from the Crown. We declared "No Kings" then, and we reaffirm "No Kings" today as our current leadership commits many similar offenses. It is our patriotic duty to defend our Constitution against enemies - foreign and domestic.
250 years ago today, our founding fathers took the remarkable step of declaring independence from England and stating that governments derive their power from the consent of the governed. It is our sacred duty as Americans to remember this, and not to allow our leaders to usurp our power.
For all the scientific societies out there: if you call the cops on your members for spreading information, you will get bad press. Classic Streisand Effect. Shame on the American Diabetes Association.
Mountain Goats were amazing! Thanks @themountaingoats.bsky.social for playing so many classics (but also the future classics from the new album). Here's John Darnielle looking like everyone's favorite professor.
Fulfilled my promise to @themountaingoats.bsky.social to buy a helluva lot of merch if they play in DC. 🤘🏻
It's been a little over a year since I've been a significant contributor to resistance efforts. It's something I'm incredibly proud of. I made myself a bouquet of flowers to celebrate. It is made of paper so it won't spoil so it will serve as a memento to defend the truth and stand up to tyranny
A few photos from a year ago when many of our signs were much fresher
We have been holding vigils outside of the NIH for a year now. It's been a privilege to commune with such a kind, thoughtful and brilliant group of people. Together we push ourselves to fight for science, health and good governance. Happy anniversary, @nihvigils.bsky.social 🧁🎂🍰🥳🍾🍻🎉🎊
Just for this I'm drinking the shitty coffee in the office break room. Starbucks, we don't need AI to create our drinks. ChatGPT doesn't even have a mouth and most of those who use it are assholes.
RIP to legendary origamist & mathematician, Toshikazu Kawasaki. He died on March 4 in a house fire at the age of 70. Kawasaki-san contributed so much to the art & science of origami, paving the way for much of the work being made today. His rose, below, is among his most famous models. #origami
We have painfully unqualified fox news hosts and reality TV stars sending our soldiers to war in order to distract from all the creepy, abusive criminals running our country, so please enjoy a baby origami penguin. Design by Syn.
Lots of crazy stuff going on. Last night I was so angry I couldn't sleep. They say to count sheep, but I folded one out of paper instead. Sheep by Tu Kaiming from Origami from China
My parents gifted me my own mug and I love them for it!!! Glad they are a part of Team Resistance!
And yes, we know it's actually Dr. Jay. We respect the effort it takes to earn a doctorate. But it's how you use it that matters. Jay uses his Doctorate to spread misinformation and tear down a treasured institution. I use mine to make little drawings to resist. We are not the same.
Here's hoping that the hearts of Jay Bhattacharya — and all other members of the Trump Administration — grow three sizes this Christmas.
Marco Rubio has declared Calibri woke. I declare all fonts woke. We must go back to calligraphy scripts like Copperplate, as our Founders intended.
Angry and disappointed tonight. All this damage and stress was for next to nothing. Expressing this in memes. Please share widely, especially with your Senators.
If you are struggling and have pets, feel free to stop by at one of the pet food pantries to get food for your animals.
FYI, we are collecting food for Manna Food Bank at the Rockville Panera until 1pm. Stop by and say hi!
Massachusetts SNAP page is reminding recipients of who holds the power over their benefits. www.mass.gov/snap-benefit...
The important take home message is Trump is wantonly destroying our country for frivolous reasons while many are suffering and the government is shut down. But also, was there no one in the room who had to listen to Truck Tunes on repeat? (Highly recommend Truck Tunes, BTW).
Sunday morning it's the shutdown fight. Basically no coverage of the protests (no pictures on the front page; one link below something about rich people still buying stuff) and several articles criticizing Democrats or supporting Dems who "keep their heads down." Shameful.
Gotta put my own for consideration but will follow up with some favs seen in the wild
