Interesting graph used on last night's Newsnight. It shows concern about #climatechange consistently around 60-65% with a steep rise in recent times. Support for net zero - where we need to get to in order to stop climate crisis worsening - has fallen to around 45% however.
Green Tips: #Water. These suggestions won’t completely transform us into a fairer, more caring, sustainable society but they are positive steps worth taking whilst the leadership, policies, institutions, decision-making processes & systemic changes needed are (hopefully) developed & implemented.
A key part of fighting the #climatecrisis is more renewable energy and energy efficiency. A key part of lowering bills is renewable energy and energy efficiency. The cheapest, least polluting, least climate changing energy is the energy we don't consume and don't have to drill or mine for.
Green Tips: At Work. These suggestions won’t completely transform us into a fairer, more caring, sustainable society but they are positive steps worth taking whilst the leadership, policies, institutions, decision-making processes & systemic changes needed are developed & implemented. Some ideas:
Climate change is real (no shit) but we mustn't do anything about it too quickly and net zero by 2050 is a political project?? No. Net zero is a physical requirement defined by carbon cycle and climate science, to do with the balance of carbon being emitted and carbon being taken in.
More oil and gas burning causes more climate change, which causes more weather extremes like heatwaves and wildfires, which causes more premature deaths. We shouldn't implement policies that cause more deaths. (Full page ad in The Times today) #ClimateCrisis #ClimateActionNow
It is reckless, negligent, irresponsible and irrational not to take urgent action to reduce and adapt to the climate crisis because all the evidence says things get much worse if we don't.
#ClimateEmergency caused by our #fossilfuel burning and mass land use changes, bringing extreme weather, killing people, cutting crop yields, reducing water availability, destroying biodiversity... All the evidence says it will get much worse without urgent action to reduce the severity of impacts.
Multiple huge wildfires, yet another heatwave, still no #climatecrisis comments from new PM Andy Burnham. So, not a priority.

#Starmer: shorter time as Labour PM than any other. Labour and the two party system have been declining for many years.
Wildfire smoke also contains dark particles that absorb sunlight and alter cloud formation, which further changes our climate. Wildfires kill, directly threaten our lives and our wildlife and infrastructure but also make even more wildfires more likely.
Some recent extreme temperatures across Europe (record 37.3C in England). #ClimateEmergency
Protect our mature native #trees. Plant many more trees of the right type in the right places - & look after them! Leave some areas to rewild themselves naturally. Clear action; relatively low/no cost; multiple benefits for both people & wildlife & our climate. Goodness knows we need the shade!
A clear reason to vote Green if we want real change, whether for its Greater Manchester Mayor (candidate Geraldine Coggins) or in local and national elections. The more we learn about Burnham's plans and appointments the more it looks like the same Labour as before.
Here we go again. If this isn't making you question the economic, social and political goals and systems we have, why not?
What does Andy Burnham stand for? There's no detail, yet he's about to be PM. He's said to have been a Blairite, a Brownite and a Corbynist at different times, so what is he now?
Yet we are not discussing the root causes & acting urgently. Woeful coverage of the #climatecrisis on Newsnight & Politics Live, spending more time describing the heat, talking to weather people, architects, swimmers...than getting into the politics & economics of adaptation & mitigation.
While Burnham meets the PM, is considering/negotiating who his Cabinet and staff will be (*all while he's yet to become Labour leader and PM and with Labour members yet to have a say*) the Greens have hit the ground running with their candidate for Greater Manchester Mayor Geraldine Coggins.
Farage wants an election now before his support declines even further. Reform poll figures are on the wane and they've failed at the recent by-elections.
So glad a retired police officer messaged Kuensberg this morning & did what a whole program of interviews and discussion did not. Equality is about meeting needs, treating people the same *where appropriate* eg don't give all your guests ham sandwiches if you know some of them are Jewish. #equity
So @zackpolanski.bsky.social certainly has been smeared. A series of relatively small scale issues have been repeatedly exaggerated and frequently spread. He scares those with big #money and big #power, who will continue with their smearing.
We need more Green MPs #Makerfield. No other political colour has done enough to tackle the #climatecrisis, loss of living systems and consequent human wellbeing decline. All political colours other than the Greens have held power and failed. @zackpolanski.bsky.social
Public ownership of steel but not for water, energy, mail, all of rail shows a lack of strategic vision & awareness. #KeirStarmer thinks he gave a speech this morning to show he gets it and will change but he only confirms he hasn't. He is an incrementalist & managerialist.
Greens second in the BBC national share of the vote, using the results from yesterday's elections (calculated by Prof John Curtice). www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
National security put at risk because the PM became so intent on having #Mandelson as US Ambassador.
