Socialism, sports, and ??? 🍊🌹 📍 Vancouver, British Columbia 🗣️ Opinions are my own 🇨🇦 🇲🇽 🇵🇹
I'm on the 747 bus coming from the Edmonton International Airport. Aside from the fantastic route number, I really appreciate the luggage rack on the bus. I think it's very important for airport public transit vehicles to have this feature. If done right, it can allow for more passenger room.
Why? It took Jack Layton a year and a half to run for a seat. It took Jagmeet two years. There's absolutely no reason to rush into the house, he needs to be doing the vital work of rebuilding. The mighty five caucus has told him that they have the House of Commons covered. Brad said it well.
He's said repeatedly that he isn't going to be running in any of the upcoming by-elections because there's no point in rushing into the house to be an independent MP in a party status-less caucus when he can travel the country. Vote for the wonderful Shannon Devine who is the candidate in Beaches.
I cannot express how happy I am for @melatkirosco.bsky.social and the folks involved in that campaign. Even though I'm not from Denver, I spent A LOT of time in my teenage years there, it's a city I'll always love. Glad they'll have a Congresswoman that truly represents what makes it so special. ♥️
Carney supporters apparently don't know the definition of "being taken advantage of." He is using Canadians collective (and justified) fear and shock caused by US Empire to ram through legislation that only benefits the absolute wealthiest in society. Almost like somebody wrote a book about that!
This fiasco once again proves that we need to #EvictKenSim this fall. Instead of trying to save an institution that has been part of Vancouver's beating heart since 1974, he is trying to win votes by distracting voters with an MLB Expansion bid idea. Shameful. Whitecaps FC > MLB Expansion any day.
BC people, even if you aren't a sports fanatic, please help #SaveTheCaps! This club means so much to so many, Vancouver will be worse off without the Whitecaps. Plain and simple. Sign the petition: savethecaps.com
Under the ever-popular President Claudia Sheinbaum, the Morena-led government has enhanced life for Mexico's 99% by building on the progress of her predecessor. They have increased the minimum wage, shortened the workweek, enacted universal healthcare, and lifted over 14 million out of poverty.
Leftist forces in France have made gains in recent local elections. Jean-Luc Mélenchon's La France Insoumise is showing growing momentum ahead of next year's presidential elections. The battle with the far-right will be difficult, but if they lock in, they can win.
In Baden-Württemberg, 90/Die Grünen managed to pull off an upset, forming a coalition government with the CDU. Voters in the auto industry state rejected the far-right AfD's anti-immigrant message of hate, electing Germany's first-ever Premier from its notable Turkish community.
In Canada, @avilewis.ca is leading the left's journey to pick up the pieces left by Mark Carney's rightward lurching Liberals. Canadians elected them to stop Trumpian conservative populism from creeping into Canada, but Carney has embraced many of the same tactics and policies; the NDP is needed.
In the UK, @zackpolanski.bsky.social's Greens have shown that left-populism is the right way to ward off the populist far-right force of Farage's Reform UK, uniting supporters of Keir Starmer's faltering right-wing "Labour" Party, those from other parties, and those who were abandoned by the system.
The far-right is declining in Europe. Today, Victor Orban's 16-year rule in Hungary came to an end, with the centre-right Peter Magyar winning. Today is a day for celebration, but the left can't sleep, we need be be ready to fight tooth and nail when the centrists inevitibly fail.
We need a public option for DÖNER! In Türkiye, you can get a chicken/beef combo for $4-5, in Vancouver it's $15 on average. The price in Vancouver is just the wrap, not even factoring in drinks or sides... I believe Canadians deserve affordable access to döner AND shawarma!
The Denver Nuggets pushed through an absolute stinker of a game in Vancouver against the Toronto Raptors, including a full 4th quarter of garbage time. Lots of Nuggets Nation here though! Love to see it. #NBACanadaSeries #MileHighBasketball #NBA
Hello from Rogers Arena here in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, Nuggets Nation!!! #MileHighBasketball #NBACanadaGame
A bit late, but I just came across this informative interview with the Governor of Espírito Santo, Renato Casagrande, about the impact that Donald Trump's unjust 50% tariffs on Brazil (on top of existing ones) have on the Capixaba economy. youtu.be/wO8rOT-p1A8
Rising side FC Rapid București have taken a 2-1 upset to FC Hermannstadt at home, and dropped to 4th in the Romanian SuperLiga on Sunday. The collapse started late, in the 77th minute with a goal from Sergiu Bus. #football #Liga1România #SuperLiga youtu.be/l8ZDZjMIWDM?...
I'm just going to count CU Boulder as my alma mater in this case to make the name remotely salvageable haha. I didn't graduate from there, but I'm definitionally alumni. Sounds a lot better than SFU which would be "Swedish Chef Red Leaf." Quite grim.
Instagram just gave me a wonderful glitch. While scrolling through my feed, I noticed a Liga Portugal post about my club's rival (Ser benfiquista), FC Porto, and its Europa League schedule.
Prime Minister Mark Carney and the Liberals have folded like a folding chair at every opportunity so far. His elbows do not seem to get much use. I'm sick of conservatism. #canpoli #canada #markcarney www.cbc.ca/news/politic...
Holy shit, as a Nuggets fan and Raptors enjoyer living in Vancouver, I'm so pumped for this. Why go to Denver or Toronto when the Nuggets & Raptors come to me? #NBACanadaSeries
I think the same goes for most, the wording on Heather's website that got leaked still says that she's "considering a run for leader" even though everyone knows she's running.
