These broad-leaved marsh orchids have 'invaded' our lawn. Good!
Perhaps someone on this platform could help me make contact with Dr Steve Morin, ex-USAID before Musk destroyed it. Steve was one of my staff at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in the Philippines in the late 1990s. Thank you.
Sunrise just before 8 am today over Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the northeast of England.
Can anyone tell what these yellow brackets are for? Installed on a section of the new Northumberland Line on a curve nr. Northumberland Park Station when the line was upgraded for passenger traffic. Are they to add greater stability to the sleepers on the curve? Not seen them on other sections.
My plant ID app, PlantNet, indicates that this is Hedera colchicine or Persian ivy, not H. helix. It was swarming with bees today.
Just look at a vase of beautiful flowers and tell me that the science of botany - in all its aspects - isn't fascinating. #IAmABotanist
I often wonder how many of my colleagues pursued a career in plant sciences, and where they are now. Here we are, in 1968 at the end of a field course in Ireland. A list of names is in the next part of this thread. [2]
wp.me/pqt3D-cmz @englishheritage.bsky.social We had a very interesting visit to Framlingham Castle last September.
@pmgilmartin.bsky.social My wife's auricula theatre is approaching peak flowering.
Amaryllis/Hippeastrum almost at their best.20cm blooms. Two bulbs, each with two stems, potentially 12-16 flowers in total. Not bad foe a £2 per bulb investment at least 10 years ago.
@pmgilmartin.bsky.social Our bulbs are just coming into flower. I expect we'll eventually have 16 flowers altogether. Not bad for a £2 investment per bulb, about 10 years ago.
@nationaltrust.bsky.social @celiarichardson.bsky.social @englishheritage.bsky.social A new blog post about the many enjoyable visits we've made to NT/EH properties. wp.me/pqt3D-ceO
Where in the @nationaltrust.bsky.social? [20] - and the last one.
