I am super excited that my picture book about the artist Maurizio Cattelan has found a home at Phaidon, one of the world's great publishers of art books! And Sarah Matuszewski is the perfect illustrator; she's got the wild sense of humor that's essential if you're trying to capture Cattelan's work.

A brief article from Publisher's Weekly. The text reads, "Maya Gartner at Phaidon has acquired world rights to THE GOLD TOILET by Jacob Sager Weinstein, illustrated by Sarah Matuszewski. The picture book tells the real-life story of mischievous Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan and the shocking theft of a multimillion-dollar toilet made entirely of gold. I've played 133 escape rooms, and this may be my favorite thing out of any of them. It's an accessibility panel that gives players direct control over sound volume and flashing lights. (Plus it directs them to other accessibility options elsewhere in the room.) Bravo to 60 Out Hollywood!

I just read MAEVE MULVANEY HAS HAD ENOUGH by @kellyamangan.bsky.social and it's a strong recommend. All the characters are nuanced and well observed, but I want to particularly single out the MC's relationship with her parents. It's very hard to get a realistic parent-child relationship in MG...

All I want in life is for concerned citizens to describe me as a Learned Dandy.

"The earliest evidence of this scam we have appears in 1818, when a concerned citizen, using the name Veritas, wrote a letter to the London newspaper The Morning Post, warning of a group that the letter writer referred to as 'Learned Dandies.' One of the Dandies ostentatiously dropped the word 'infortunate' in conversation, provoked a bet, then adjusted his cravat, pulled out a copy of Samuel Johnson's dictionary, and demonstrated the words existence. The letter writer stated that after this the Dandy 'with the greatest composure pocketed the money and walked off, leaving us to console one another on our folly, and I may add, stupidity.'"

I second all the votes for Lloyd Alexander! I loved those as a kid, reread them as a grownup, and was relieved to discover they're just as wonderful as I remember. Also at the risk of being self-promotional-- Lloyd Alexander was a big influence on my kids' fantasy Hyacinth & The Secrets Beneath.

Hi! My third picture book WHAT ROSA BROUGHT comes out in November. It's the true story of my mom's experiences in Nazi-occupied Vienna. As you can imagine, it's a particularly personal book. I'd love to talk about it with any interested teachers or librarians.
