New investigations
We have opened formal investigations into whether the following providers have highly effective age checks in place to protect children from encountering pornography across 34 websites: 8579 LLC, AVS Group Ltd, Kick Online Entertainment S.A. and Trendio Ltd.

These companies have been prioritised based on the risk of harm posed by the services they operate and their user numbers. Collectively, these websites have over 9 million unique monthly UK visitors.[1]

These new cases add to Ofcom’s 11 investigations already in progress into 4chan, an online suicide forum, seven file-sharing services, First Time Videos LLC and Itai Tech Ltd. We expect to make further enforcement announcements in the coming weeks and months.

For the first time, it gives social media platforms an obligation to proactively keep children safe. It forces them to detect and remove horrific child sexual abuse material, which has shamefully lurked on the internet, barely hidden from those sick enough to seek it out.
Because these sites, which have some of the best tech in the world, should be using that to identify these disturbing images and videos and using hash-matching – a technology that marks images so they can be quickly flagged to other sites and removed.
It also means practical steps to protect children from strangers who want to do them harm. It stipulates that children’s profiles and locations should be hidden to keep them safe by default.

Something I've noticed is Starmer, Ofcom and the petition response keeps talking about suicide/self harm sites. Which is why there is no exception for small sites in the online Safety act. This is using a nuke, when in fact you want a hammer. Also this weird government legalised it.

Some duties apply to all user-to-user and search services in scope of the Act. This includes risk assessments, including determining if children are likely to access the service and, if so, assessing the risks of harm to children. While many services carry low risks of harm, the risk assessment duties are key to ensuring that risky services of all sizes do not slip through the net of regulation. For example, the Government is very concerned about small platforms that host harmful content, such as forums dedicated to encouraging suicide or self-harm. Exempting small services from the Act would mean that services like these forums would not be subject to the Act’s enforcement powers. Even forums that might seem harmless carry potential risks, such as where adults come into contact with child users.

Importantly, this does not include passwords, ID documents or any usable card or payment details.

Oh boy I really do love it when seedy services are required by government to build a database full of kompromat.
