A bit of cycling. A bit of fiddling. Probably too much politics. We’ll see. Edinburgh
@merchistoncc.bsky.social @spokes.org.uk Some good news, they’re installing the new deck on the Harrison Road railway bridge. Finally !
Slateford Rd definitely needs a lot of work. But …. if it is to be fully resurfaced, PLEEEEEZ can all pending service work be completed before it’s resurfaced ? Gilmore Place was resurfaced only a few months ago, and it looks like they’re going to dig it up already 😭. It’s pretty bad.
Errr, there red stuff in Greyfriar’s Bobby 😳. Is it a protest against something ? It’s so hard to tell these days.
Snow has reached Edinburgh. I hope to set out to Waitrose for supplies. I may be some time.
Get away from it all on the NC500. Just make sure you don’t spend any money in the local economy.
For posterity, here’s the load bearing structure of the bridge over the old railway on Harrison Rd. Big iron beams supporting brick arches along the length of the bridge. I think it’s very cool. Sadly, they’re not repairing it. They’re going to remove the whole deck & replace it with a concrete one.
I’m safely back on dry land in Aberdeen, after a rough crossing from Lerwick. We played tunes in the ferry 🎻🎶🙂
It seems like the birds that crapped on this car, didn’t read the owner’s wee note !
I’m convinced that Meta AI on Facebook is utterly pointless. All it does is ask stupid questions about posts. And then, it answers its questions by duplicating the post, prefixed with “apparently”. Hardly the dream of world changing machine intelligence that we were promised.
Long shot, but does anyone know how to get rid of these weird AI prompts from Facebook ?
The council found that they’d left a road in Shandon open, by mistake. Thankfully, Ogilvie Terrace is closed now.
I’m a bit late to the party here, they’re already 7 days old. But say hello to the new Union Canal cygnets ! This family live next to Boroughmuir School. Apparently, mummy & daddy swan are called Cindy & Mr G (not sure why).
Old computers were much cooler than new computers. This one in the National Computing Museum has got a thyratron lamp driver. A. Thyratron. Lamp. Driver.
Visited Notre Dame, as part of my Paris wanderings today. It’s a bit odd seeing a cathedral without the grime of the ages. But they’ve done an astonishing job of the restoration. It’s so beautiful.
Final morning session at the Auld Alliance Fiddle Camp, in Brittany. A great weekend & cool to find out that the French like Scots traditional music 🎻🎶
Great news in the swan world, the cygnets have hatched on the Union Canal at Wester Hailes. The first for a few years. Apparently, there are 7, but you’d be hard pressed to count them from these pix !
Excitement on Ashley Terrace, it looks like someone was knocked down. Not sure.
Nope. Cyclists simply can’t cause as much damage as car drivers. Here are a few pix to illustrate.
I’m not religious, but I do happen to have a postcard of Pope Francis on my mantelpiece. It caught my eye when I was over in Rome for the rugby. He seemed to be a good man, trying to do his best for the people who need help most. Something we could with more of in the world. RIP
