In contrast, Edwin is very cautious of how other people feel and would never deliberately upset a person. His kindness is a blessing and a curse at times.
Arlen can be a real jerk at times. The more stressed he is the more likely he'll lash out on someone or give them a hard time. He often comes off as insensitive, using humor or sarcasm to hide any uncomfortable emotions instead of confronting them.
Edwin TERRIFIED, his father wasnt a necromancer but a blood mage that did some heinous stuff that traumatized him. He smiles and bares it when Emmrich does his thing but he 100% threw up after that scene in the Lighthouse with Zara. 💀💀 Aaand Arlen married a necromancer and is fascinated by it. 💚
Edwin's lowest is post-Veilguard. He takes his father's place as magister but is constantly haunted by his late father and all the horrors he's been put through throughout the years and through the Veilguard. He becomes incredibly depressed.
For Arlen it was when Dorian left Skyhold for Tevinter. Everything kinda came crashing around him. The inquisition disbanded, his lover reduced to a long distance romance and losing his arm took a major toll on him. He was a wreck for a time but Sera pulled him out of it.
Maybe not "small" but he has a fear of necromancy, corpses and the undead. Let's just say he had to grin and bear it for most of his time in the Veilguard. The way he had to hold back his lunch when he walked into Emmrich's room with a corpse on the table. 🤢
(man I REALLY gotta draw Edwin more) Edwin learned to formal dance as a child as part of his education. He uses his skills to woe his lovers but also his enemies on missions.
Arlen learned his basics of formal dancing from Josephine but Dorian caught him practicing by himself in his room one night and helped him really get a good grasp on it before the Winter Palace.
Arlen flirted with Cullen but was turned down by him, he was upset by it but he later found his soulmate with Dorian so it was destined to be that way~ 💚 Happy Pride 🏳️🌈

Markus didn't forget his birth parents but his life before becomes a blur with age and he sees Arlen and Dorian as his dads. Arlen and Dorian are incredibly proud of Markus.
Arlen never saw himself as someone that would be a father and actually wasn't very fond of kids. Markus slowly changed that. Arlen's certainly a bit unconventional, still being a bit childish himself, the "fun" dad but doesn't coddle. Markus is overall an easy child and Arlen got lucky with that.

Arlen was quite the difficult for his young mother. Unruly, energetic, curious and adventurous. He was always into /something/. The prankster and comedian, he loved attention on him even if it was negative.
Arlen is easily irritated and impulsive. He doesn't take criticism well and will snap back even if he's in the wrong. Edwin however is very composed, it takes a lot to get on his nerves. Edwin's only crash outs were moments where lives of those he cared for were lost and when he faces his father.
I only have two protagonists (as of now, I have an idea for a Warden if I can ever play DAO) and both are "complete" and fully developed but only one has a 30 page doc and an insane amount of lore dropped on my socials... and it's Arlen. SHOCKER I KNOWWW. anyway look at them 😘💚
