Good morning and greetings from the State House in Annapolis, where lawmakers will hold a special session to change the state constitution to make congressional redistricting easier in the future. @brendawintrode.bsky.social and I will have updates throughout the day.

Maryland Democrats are hosting their “Fight Back & Win” gala featuring former President Joe Biden as they keynote speaker. The gala already has raised $250K, sources tell me. That’s the best haul in at least three years.
What were Gov. Wes Moore and Dawn Flythe Moore talking about before they voted in Annapolis? "I'm trying to convince her to vote for me," the governor joked. Read about that and more election day vignettes at The Banner: www.thebanner.com/politics-pow...
The Maryland Senate gave the First Citizen Award to three women with long political careers who are not seeking re-election and retiring from elected office: ▪️Maryland House Speaker Adrienne A. Jones ▪️State Sen. Joanne C. Benson ▪️U.S. House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi.
More than 100 people gathered on Lawyers Mall to continue to protest budget cuts to the Developmental Disabilities Administration, particularly for individuals who hire their own staff. Among the speakers: Retired O’s star BJ Surhoff, cofounder of Pathfinders for Autism.
Advocates for people w/developmental disabilities, including Tracy Wright, at right, deliver petitions to Michael Huber, deputy chief of staff to Gov. Wes Moore, at the State House. Moore proposed $150M in cuts to the Developmental Disabilities Admin. Background: www.thebanner.com/politics-pow...
For all you Maryland politics junkies, here is a photo of the vote board on the redistricting bill in the House of Delegates tonight. This was before the final call and it is unofficial. Official roll call is not publicly posted yet. But have fun zooming in:
Happening now in the Maryland house of Delegates: Final debate on a new congressional district map that would give Democrats at a chance for an 8-0 sweep. Even if the map passes the House, it’s likely to stall w/o action in the Senate — unless there’s a change in thinking there
UPDATE: Maryland Gov. Wes Moore's redistricting commission is recommending a map that significantly redraws the 1st Congressional District, currently repped Republican Andy Harris. Read more: www.thebanner.com/politics-pow...
I'll be on WYPR Radio's "Midday with Tom Hall" in the noon hour today, talking all things Maryland General Assembly. Tune in at 88.1 FM in the Baltimore metro area, or online at wypr.org
I pretty much winged it and it turned out well! I made homemade bread, too.
The Maryland governor’s mansion is very colorful for a Diwali celebration tonight.
Happy National Gymnastics Day! Adults can do gymnastics, too. #NGD2025 @usagym.org
Did you see a rebate on your BGE bill? That’s the work of Md. state lawmakers, who took $ from a state energy fund to provide a bit of relief. Another rebate is planned for winter. Here’s a story from when it was first put forward (before full details): www.thebaltimorebanner.com/politics-pow...
Taking a break from the news for a bit. Follow @brendawintrode.bsky.social for the most interesting Maryland politics news.
Last night, The Baltimore Banner staff celebrated the 3rd anniversary (!!) of our launch. And we also bid farewell to our founding editor, @kyoshino.bsky.social , who literally built our newsroom from scratch. The Banner’s loss is The Washington Post’s gain.
Maryland @govwesmoore.bsky.social will speak to South Carolina Democrats in a couple of hours. South Carolina is an important state within the Dem party; the DNC moved it to the front of the presidential primary calendar in 2024. Look for a report in @thebaltimorebanner.com later.
Maryland Gov. Wes Moore is signing scores of bills into law at the State House today. Here is a look at the seemingly endless line/crowd of people waiting to go up to the second floor to pose for pictures with the gov, House Speaker Adrienne A. Jones & Senate President Bill Ferguson.
The @thebaltimorebanner.com’s first Pulitzer Prize! Congratulations Alissa Zhu, Jess Gallagher and Nick Thieme! www.thebaltimorebanner.com/community/lo...
Fully back to work covering Maryland politics after a week in Mountain Maryland that involved hiking, reading, relaxing and, oddly enough, both sleet and sunburn.
New on @thebaltimorebanner.com's General Assembly live blog: Maryland @govwesmoore.bsky.social will head to Japan and South Korea on a trade mission after the end of the legislative session. www.thebaltimorebanner.com/politics-pow...
The House passed the operating budget bill on a 100-39 vote. Notably, Del. Sheree Sample-Hughes broke from fellow Democrats and voted no. Now the House is on the Budget Reconciliation & Financing Act, which is where the tax increases reside.
Maryland House of Delegates has been debating the state budget for more than an hour ahead of the final (3rd reader) vote. Then the Senate will vote before sending the budget to the governor’s desk.
