a senior citizen was asking about crosswalk flags for this crosswalk on fb and got jumped on re "stupid flags" Not every citizen will be mounting a campaign for a tactical intervention. The crossing is dangerous. The drivers might be dangerous. It's OK to ask for a visibility tool
wow that is a lot. Could costs be reduced with alternatives like this? Still expensive but perhaps a bit more feasible dailyhive.com/vancouver/su...
hey @actfortransit.bsky.social what do you usually have in the US for the wider crossings like this without traffic signals? Are the red lights like this typical or not?
the new crosswalk on Young Street, photo not taken by me but shared with permission. The issues have been referred to 311 but even with the uneven surface and paint resolved, this does not look at all safe
still faster to drive across town at rush hour vs sustainable modes Time to review our priorities www.youtube.com/watch?v=7f2o...
Horrible situation for those involved and the many who depend on a transportation service in this town
3000 seems a lot, but way less than the average daily boardings for some bus routes cdn.halifax.ca/sites/defaul...
no RRFB shown here, but a simple protected tactical refuge island is seen www.smartgrowthamerica.org/knowledge-hu...
One of two crashes reported yesterday where pedestrians were struck. This is a very wide and dangerous intersection
No-one should be required to share space with vehicles, but especially not for commercial routes like this frequented by large trucks.
Councillors should be next-level embarrassed about inaccessible bus stops on main routes without sidewalks, and proposing temporary tactical protection for users.
some good responses to this on Reddit. Councillors consistently point to Provincial responsibilities and issues. But key causes causing danger and harm are municipal jurisdiction
remember all those photos focusing on this location as a place for people? www.halifax.ca/about-halifa...
the ticket usually issued when a pedestrian is struck & seriously injured on a crosswalk is "failure to yield to a pedestrian", which at signalized intersections is £180 for a first offense. Same as the ticket issued to pedestrians for failing to proceed on a walk sign novascotia.ca/just/regulat...
Alleged hit and run involving a child on a bicycle. This town and its drivers are a liability for children trying to move around actively on their vacation
ATU 508: A bus without A/C is a health and safety issue. Call 311 every single time you ride a bus with no A/C, reporting the bus number on the front. Every call demands accountability
Apologies to those not using fb. Video shows drivers turning left on green at Duke/Brunswick intersection, conflicting with cyclist crossing on their phase. Then a Maritime Bus blocking the bike lane where there is a gap in protection outside the Hampton Inn www.facebook.com/share/v/1CqG...
The Gehl report (2019) on Cogswell, also covering all kinds of city priorities, contains priceless info and examples on how to create a people-focused, liveable city. Essential reading for leadership ehq-production-canada.s3.ca-central-1.amazonaws.com/documents/at...
this from our current road safety strategy, but its the same old same old cdn.halifax.ca/sites/defaul...
Second part of this post. Road safety community groups are no longer key stakeholders in our revised 2024 road safety strategy, a downgrade in many respects
Good to see leadership promote road safety. However we are a lagger, not a leader, in this area. We should start by adopting Vision Zero as a Goal, and by developing a serious road safety action plan to get us there. www.facebook.com/share/1DTjEW...
Graphics from Walk Safe showing the dangers of right turns on red. A motion to remove RTOR in key public areas including schools was not supported by staff due to "limited data evidence to support the need for, or to quantify the effectiveness of, such restrictions on a system-wide basis”
