This is a second picture of the bird which I have cropped. Lesser Yellowlegs of juvenile Redshank?
Lesser Yellowlegs at Buryport, Llanelli this morning. It dropped in with the oystercatcher flock. Good to see @dmesg.bsky.social #birdingwales
Timelapse of the Eclipse taken from Pontypool Folly. #birdingwales
Great visit to WWT Slimbridge. I spent a lot of time photographing butterflies, moths, dragonflies and birds. More to follow in my blog later this week. #birdingwales
Up early this morning up at the Pontypool Folly. The sunrise was magnificent.Sorry that smoke can bee seen looking North from the fires on the mountain above Cwmavon and to the South a fire at an industrial estate in Ponthir. #birdingwales.
Had a lovely day at WWT Slimbridge yesterday. Highlights were Green Sandpipers and Hummingbird-Hawkmoths.
Goldcliff Lagoons. This morning. It was quiet around high tide. Monk's Lagoon is drying out fast. Main highlight was the Great White Egret flypast #birdingwales
Goldcliff Lagoons this morning with Nev Davies. Wood Sandpiper, Common Whitethroat, Black-Tailed Godwit Flock with 2 x Bar-Tailed Godwits and Sedge Warbler. #birdingwales
A couple of pics from this morning. The Black-Tailed Godwits flock (approx 400 birds) were on Monks Lagoon until a Peregrine turned up; they all flew off Westwards towards Uskmouth. Approx. 120 Avocets on Monks, +flocks on Priors + Becs Lagoons, so probably the numbers are around 160. #birdingwales
Friday morning at Goldcliff Lagoons was absolutely wader heaven: Knots, Black-Tailed Godwits and Avocets flying around in synchronised aerial formations. #birdingwales #gwentbirds
Goldclfif Lagoons. Highlights White Fronted Geese ( at least 14c) on Priors. My first pic of a Chiffchaff at the reserve this year. Little Grebe on Priors. Avocets were on all three lagoons. A 30c Female Kestrel skirting the borders of the reserve. BTG on Monks. #birdingwales #gwentbirds
My first talk of 2026 is scheduled for next week with the Gwent Photographic Society.
Enjoyed a visit to WWT Slimbridge on Saturday. Lots of birds. Highlights flocks of Dunlin, Lapwings and Golden Plover. White-fronted Geese and Common Crane fly past.
Nice day out yesterday with @john-l-uk.bsky.social and @gos-birds.bsky.social at WWT Slimbridge.
Lovely day at WWT Slimbridge on Friday with my amigos. www.thewildlifeoculus.com/2025/12/the-...
Nice to have sunshine at Goldcliff Lagoons. Nice to see a large flock of Black-Tailed Godwits on Priors Lagoons -300 +. Highlight was 25 Grey Plovers out on the Saltmarsh near the Pill. A Buzzard showed well for me. #birdingwales #gwentbirds
Temminck's Stint, Rushy Hide WWT Slimbridge. Much better views.
Temminck's Stint on the South Lake this afternoon at WWT Slimbridge. The wader was pushing the limits of my lens on the far side of the lake. Lifer for me :) Tick.
Goldcliff Lagoons AM visit. Wryneck showing in bushes/trees in the field behind Snipe Platform.Cloudy sunrise. Wader flock - Little Stints, Dunlins and Curlew Sandpipers. #birdingwales #gwentbirders
Nice views of a Wryneck today at Goldcliff Lagoons. A lifer for me, so well happy. #birdingwales #gwentbirds
A quick visit to Newton Point, Porthcawl, this morning. There is a lot of disturbance caused by dogs off the lead, which disrupts the roosting of waders. Ringed Plovers and Turnstones were the best I could manage. #birdingwales
Llanhishen and Lisvane Reservoir this afternoon. Only one Grey Phalarope remains on Llanhishen. The Garganey was very accommodating, with numerous Little Grebes and a single Common Sandpiper. #birdingwales
No luck today at Aberafon Pier, Port Talbot, with the Sabine Gulls. There was one, apparently, but too far out in the bay. Lots of other birds, however. Turnstones, Starlings, Oystercatchers and various other gull species. #birdingwales
A visit to Newton Point yesterday. Nice flock of Sanderling, Dunlin, Turnstones and Ringed Plover on the rocky foreshore. #birdingwales
One of the three Grey Phalaropes at Lisvane/Llanhishen reservoirs this morning. The Phalropes were seen to be occasionally taking to the air and picking off flying insects. #birdingwales
I have had a wonderful time in Norfolk Birdwatching. RSPB Snettisham was amazing. Very fortunate to have some lovely sunrises over the last three days and lots of waders. #norfolkbirding
Today is World Shorebird Day – a celebration of the waders that connect continents through their epic migrations. Every mudflat, lagoon and estuary plays a vital role in their survival. Let’s protect these wild places so future generations can marvel at their journeys. #birdingwales
