This week on Make It Then Tell Everybody- I chat with @crom-ink.bsky.social about finishing what you start, letting go of perfectionism, and building a creative life on your own terms. podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/m... Support on Patreon- www.patreon.com/makethentell...
I chatted with Georgina ‘George Rex’ Chadderton for this weeks episode of Make It Then Tell Everybody. Get it where you get podcasts apart from Spotify, screw Spotify.
dreamed I’d made a T-shirt which was getting great reviews from T-shirt critics and really ‘doing numbers’. People were saying it was a cultural touchstone, a commentary on the time we live in but I hadn’t actually seen it. The dream ended when I finally saw it and woke myself up laughing.
Had a very stressful week so decided to go and live on a hillside for a while and unwind a little.
I would have edited/released it already but it’s been soooo hot here I couldn’t use my studio!
Best tattoo you’ve seen in all this hot weather? Here’s what I saw today. It really told a little story.
I went to see @chriscantrill.bsky.social at the lovely weekend this weekend so I drew a picture of him. (I also wrote the music on this.)
Despite this image making it look like I’ve just died, I’ve finally decided to move my newsletter away from Substack and on to a new place: thingsbydan.beehiiv.com Go and sign up there if you like stories about how I nearly cut my finger off or made a book.
Did you know that I make custom fonts that imitate hand lettering, and that you can pay me to make one for you? thingsbydan.co.uk/fonts/ like this one I made for @lucysullivan.bsky.social
I love this picture if the blade pen taken by photographer Liam Bray. You can buy a blade pen here- thingsbydan.myshopify.com
Ayyy! I’ll have some pens with me and (if I pull my finger all the way out) I may have a neat new book.
Found in a sketchbook this week. I have very vague recollections of drawing this.
Been going through stacks of artwork and sketchbooks getting things ready for my show, finding a ton of weird stuff in old sketchbooks, like these ‘World of Milk’ things that I’m pretty sure I only sent to @badmachinery.com
I have a solo show coming up at Swan Hill Studios in Shrewsbury, opening on the 17th April and running for a week. I’ll be there, drawing comics and chatting about creative stuff while the show is up. Also doing a masterclass on the evening of the 22nd April. www.swanhillstudios.com/event-detail...
I wrote a newsletter about the act of drawing and the stuff that happens behind the drawing. open.substack.com/pub/thingsby...
If you saw a loving tribute to a Beloved Horse atop a defibrillator in Borth around New Year, that was me. No there’s no backstory.
I re-edited this video to show all the hesitations and ‘uhhhhh moments’ between the pen on paper moments. I find this stuff more interesting than the actual drawing bits now.
