I'm not sure how many times we will need to say this, but we will say it every time until we win: yet another damning letter written by our community leaders condemning the path our administration is blindly following to ruin.

We voted on the offer, this time through a simple online survey. Again, it was overly rejected (87% voted no). We also provided a space in the survey for members to comment on the offer. Here is a word cloud of their responses.

castle meadow disaster: shared governance and smart investments are essential for the future of our university.

We also stop hiring managers who
make six figures.

The number of full time
roles for all staff decreased by 10% in '25/’26 and 1.5%
in '24/’25.

But for staff making over £130,00, it increased by 23% in '25/’26 and 70% in '24/’25.

(and we’re the ones facing redundancy...)

Additionally, we stop paying for consultants.

Honestly, that’s it.
Just stop.

What are they
actually doing?

And we take a measured and informed approach to capital investment.

This includes reassessing the £55m earmarked for yet another building.

Here’s why they’re
wrong.

Rather than accept
management’s dismal and
pessimistic plan,
union members have
put together a
comprehensive
counter proposal.

If followed, this
proposal could net
the university up to
43.9 million pounds.

And we would do it
without redundancies.

So how do we do
it?

For starters, we rely on natural attrition,
within university appointments, and a voluntary reduced hours scheme.

More clear evidence that the community has our back: city council and members of parliament have joined our president to craft this important joint appeal condemning the horrific financial strategy that our administration continues force on the university.

The University of Nottingham is one of Nottingham’s most important institutions.
It is a globally recognised centre of teaching and research, one of the city’s
largest employers, and a major contributor to Nottingham’s economy,
innovation ecosystem and international reputation.
We recognise that universities across the country are facing significant financial
challenges and that difficult decisions are being made throughout the higher
education sector. Ensuring the long-term sustainability of our universities is
important not only for students and staff, but also for the communities and
economies that depend on them.
However, we share concerns about the potential economic impact that
significant reductions in staffing and academic capacity could have on
Nottingham.
The University is a major driver of economic activity across the city. Thousands

We believe every effort should be made to explore options that can secure the
University’s financial future while minimising the impact on employment,
research excellence, teaching provision and the broader contribution the
University makes to Nottingham’s economy.
The proposals and alternatives currently being discussed demonstrate the
importance of continued dialogue and engagement. Especially the finance
counterproposal by UCU indicates that the required savings are possible
without the need for large-scale job cuts and the closure of whole Departments.
We encourage University management to work constructively together with
UCU to identify solutions that protect the long-term sustainability of the
institution while preserving the skills, expertise and economic activity that are so
important to our city.
The success of the University of Nottingham and the success of Nottingham as
a city are closely linked. Our shared objective must be to ensure that the

Where's the lie?

Yesterday Keir Starmer announced Labour will nationalise British Steel and save 2700 jobs.

The Uni of Nottingham put 2700 staff at risk of redundancy.

This is just one university.

Across the UK 15,000 higher education jobs need saving.

Where is the rescue package for our universities?

Cities and towns will be devastated by these job losses.
