Interestingly there is still putlog scaffolding in modern construction. It’s a cheaper option than independent scaffolding. The ‘putlogs’ are normal scaffold poles with a squashed end that can be built into perpendicular brick joints but it tends to make the joint fatter which is less appealing.
(Amazing how much supermarket cinnamon cassia is passed off as just ‘cinnamon’ - usually ground but occasionally the sticks too which is easier to see as the bark is much thicker)
