Introducing Styx! She is a rescued ex-racing greyhound, switching to a new career of sofa stealer, ear model and minor sff pet celebrity. She was in foster for a little while before joining me but home life is still a bit confusing for her. Still, she's determined to cuddle her way through it ❤️

Here's Gothenburg, Sweden, scoring very high on the "best bookshops while travelling" list because not only do they have a dedicated SFF bookshop, but the first thing that caught my eye facing out was @brentclambert.bsky.social's A NECESSARY CHAOS from @neonhemlock.bsky.social! An excellent choice!

I hit a critic milestone! CSE Cooney's SAINT DEATH'S HERALD arrived today (in fetching yellow!) and it unexpectedly has MY PRAISE on it! I have great taste so this is really all the information you need to pick this series up, it's brilliant.

A deeply unserious animal

I got a queer beachwear selfie stick Santa in my office gift exchange and I need everyone to see how cursed this is:

13. AMMONITE by Nicola Griffith. I'd be nervous to reread this in case it doesn't stand up but it absolutely blew me away when I started down the rabbithole of feminist SF and it switched me on to the brilliance that is Nicola Griffith.

12. THE EYRE AFFAIR by Jasper Fforde: when I was in sixth form I was convinced I only wanted to read "smart" literary classics (and Brett Easton Ellis?!). Then I moved to a small city in China, my Mum sent me this book in a care package and it cured me of my miserable, pretentious delusions. Lucky!

11. Rowan of Rin is a series about a purehearted dweeb who always gets to be the Special-est boy of his village. Not a recommendation, but ROWAN AND THE KEEPER OF THE CRYSTAL has a place in my heart because it's the first book I remember writing fanfic about (a pokemon crossover, lost to time)

9. CREATURES: THE LEGACY OF FRANKENSTEIN ed. David Thomas Moore. I found myself randomly thinking about this book for the first time in aaages at a Fantasycon panel (and recced it!) and it was one of the first books I reviewed on NoaF: a great quintet of stories, worth tracking down!
