I was given this Kyrgyz wheat beer by a good friend, and I'm not really sure whether this is meant to be a Bavarian Weissbier or a Belgian witbier, because its aroma and flavour is in an odd space somewhere in-between. Not bad, though.
I totally missed the Anheuser-Busch Bud in Germany story, but it explains so many things. A few weeks ago, Aldi sold 6 packs of Bud, and just yesterday we went to a football match where the beer was served in Anheuser-Busch Bud plastic cups (the beer itself was Spaten Hell). Some of my friends...
My new book, Bavarian White Beer, has been out for almost two weeks, and so far, the feedback has been absolutely fantastic. Heartfelt thanks to everyone who bought a copy! Get yours now: waizenbier.de #beerhistory #homebrewing
When Alan posted this snippet of a colorised drawing of the old Schneider taproom/beer hall in Munich, I loved the idea so much I turned it into a sticker design and got 500 of them printed. Get your copy of my new book Bavarian White Beer now: waizenbier.de
Enjoying a wonderful Bavarian wheat beer on the balcony, and very much looking forward to tomorrow, because I have something exciting to announce.
I just accidentally bought an alcohol-free American-style Pale Ale, and it tastes as amazing as the full fat version.
The Bavarian dialect group (my mother tongue) is amazing. The slogan on this beer bottle means "we've never drunk anything else", but linguistically speaking, it contains a quadruple negation, and it's perfectly fine and understandable to native speakers.
A wee fly just landed on my shoulder to clean themselves. So I tried out how my phone camera would cope with such a situation. I think the result is quite impressive. 20 years ago, friends of mine spent lots of money for the right photo equipment for shots like these.
This is a massive 2 litre (!!) historic Hefeweizen glass @louisekrennmair.bsky.social bought on eBay, next to a modern 0.5 litre Hefeweizen glass. Who would even drink from that?!
Carl Lintner documented a kind of parti-gyling in his 1878 "Lehrbuch der Bierbrauerei" as in use in some Viennese breweries "following the example of some large English breweries", to brew large amounts of first-runnings Märzenbier plus Abzugbier. babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=uc... #beerhistory
The buns turned out pretty good. They browned evenly, toasted nicely, and were super soft and yet sturdy enough not to compress easily like some brioche buns.
A rather successful day at the flea market in Berlin-Karlshorst.
I'm glad I brewed this 10°P polotmavý at just 4.2% ABV. Perfect beer on a warm Friday evening. Looks a bit hazy, but that's just chill haze. Lots of late Saaz hops, which combined with the malt adds somewhat of a strawberry flavour. Very refreshing. #homebrewing
I found a different postcard of Dreher at the Oktoberfest. (source: www.bavarikon.de/object/bav:M...)
If somebody ever invents time travel, I do want to drink all the late 19th century Schlitz beers.
Today was one of these musabbaha-for-lunch Fridays, and it was glorious.
I just had this, and the burger and the sauce are just purple, while the taste is all driven by their standard BBQ sauce. The only item that tasted of blueberry was the milkshake.
Met some former work colleagues, and we ended up in a local pub that (among several beers) serves Lausitzer Porter on tap. And I even got it in this branded glass! The beer itself is not great, but it's all about the presentation.
