So I’m having a Raymond Chandler reread-fest. I just learned from one of his short stories, “Nevada Gas”, about the Crescenta Valley floods of New Years Eve 1933 and New Years Day 1934. How did I not know about this So Cal disaster? That’s one for the calendar.

The pendant I ordered from www.laughingravendesign.com at the Sawdust Festival is here. It’s bronze with a sterling bee and a small amber stone. She’s good people and I have several other pieces of her work.

We went comfy chair shopping this morning. We found a nice reasonably priced recliner & ordered two. Then I had fun wandering around Michaels. I found a bust of Medusa in the store-brand (Ashland) Halloween minis. Isn’t she beautiful? @hillarymonahan.bsky.social

I thought I’d finished with jewelry. But I was deceived, for there was one more. Long ago, I put these snowflake obsidian stars on silver hoops. But I never wore them, & they languished, tarnished & forgotten, until I spotted them yesterday & decided to do something with them. Details in alt text.

Sterling earwires, sterling wire, Bali silver beads, snowflake obsidian stars. I made the bails and eyepins by hand, that’s why they’re wonky.

These are the earrings I made about when I made the hematite & moonstone necklace, around 1995-96. They are very heavy, & I hang them from the two lowest holes in each ear. I even made my own earwires. Oh, to be that young & fearless again. @mishellbaker.bsky.social

I restrung a necklace I made years ago that had shrunk *ahem* over time. I have a better range of moonstone beads now, so I chose bigger ones. I also rearranged the hematite beads a bit. It’s meant to imply moon phases. I’d made earrings too, but they need polished. I’ll share them later maybe.

Huh. I put the necklace on and it feels ok. I’ll wear it for a while. It’s got turquoise and amethyst beads, silver metal and sterling findings. I probably put it together twenty or thirty years ago. My mom and I used to buy from Fire Mountain and share it, and there were more bead stores.

Yesterday I rigged an extender for a vintage necklace from a scrap of chain and a handmade jumpring leftover from a wire working class. Today I need to polish it, and I have an idea for earrings using a pair of mother of pearl fans.
