i stopped by a CVS today and the ENTIRE candy aisle was locked up

a large aisle of bags and boxes of assorted candy, literally all of it except for one narrow shelf of gum, and for some reason the large bulk bags on the top shelf, behind locked plexiglass doors.

after wracking my brain for a few minutes, i realized i was not thinking of another actor: i was thinking of former president of Ireland, Michael D Higgins.

a balding white man, with white hair on the sides and back of his head, short and squat, with a big nose, wearing rimless glasses and a very sharp navy three piece suit. somewhat ironically, i got this picture from his IMDB page; he wrote and narrated an apparently not very good movie in the early oughts.

super tasty!! i wish the noodles had carried more of the broth with them (i haven’t had real pho in ages but iirc it’s generally served with a big spoon so you can get noodles and broth together but that doesn’t work in a small cup, alas!), the broth was spicy but not overwhelming and tasted great!

The Flenser

$three cassettes released by the excellent label The Flenser, lined up on a wooden bench. from left to right we have "Labyrinthine" by Faetooth, featuring an illustrated cover by Julia Jane Martens in muted blues and black of a woman in a flowy, empire-waste gown, standing and holding a scythe in her right hand, with a lamb standing at her feet. there's a giant tombstone behind her and flowers all around; Desolation's Flower by Ragana, which has a black and white photo by Bailey Kobelin of the two light-skinned band members standing back to back and looking up and away, one has long medium-colored hair and the other has dark bangs, everything below their heads is obscured by a giant bouquet of flowers, and their faces are refracted in an arc above them; and finally Ash Souvenir by Ragana & Drowse, which has a square illustration by Cameron Puleo, showing the aftermath of the Mount St Helens eruption with the mountain in a light taupe color, and fields of shattered trees in darker brown, with a pink cloudy background, this has a border of roots and twigs and leaves, and the background of the rest of the tape is the same taupe as the mountain. it's also the only tape to have any writing on the cover, the album title at the top of the illustration and the band names in smaller text just below the illustration, both in a gothic font. they're all great albums and you should check them out on bandcamp!$

i got an extra-evil Kuromi instead

me, a light-skinned mixed race trans woman, with a curly, grey-streaked dark brown bob and green glasses frame, smiling and holding a large Kuromi plushie. Kuromi is ostensibly a rabbit, making a 😈 face, wearing a black jester’s hood with two large triangular spikes to hold her ears (presumably, but they’re very flat and it feels like ears would be uncomfortably squished in them! maybe that’s why she’s evil) with a skull on the forehead. normally she has white fur and the skull and points on the collar of her hood are pink, but this is a special, extra evil witchcraft Kuromi for Halloween, so she has light green fur and purple accents on her hood.

a plush version of the mandragora creature from Final Fantasy 11, cropped to just the head. it’s got a very round white head, but its face is dark brown, and it has two circular white eyes at the edges of the face, sticking slightly out of the brown border. it’s wearing a lighter brown cowl that covers its face to just below the eyes, which looks like it is laced up (but it’s a plant monster so this is probably actually part of its body, somehow). most importantly for this joke, it has two little green leaves sprouting out of the top of its head.
