Pan Am's Internal German Service in September 1990. The airline sold its Berlin routes to Lufthansa for the bargain price of $150 million that October.
Even for airport transport, which many agree is one of the strongest use cases for eVTOLs, United CEO Scott Kirby questions their safety in the "crowded airspace" around airports. www.flightglobal.com/archive/2026...
There may be nowhere to sit but damn does arriving in Moynihan Train hall have a sense of occasion 🤌 www.instagram.com/p/DanUNIlRMvk/
I was in NYC this week and walked a few blocks of 6 1/2 Avenue. It made me thing: what happened to the @nomabid.bsky.social Meander? ggwash.org/view/35046/m... #washingtondc
Interesting comment from Joe Esposito on Delta's segmentation of the business class cabin. "What you can see for the future is how we can retail all those products and actually reward our best customers" — in other words, tailoring the soft product so its better for top spenders, even up front.
"We expect to see that in Delta colors next year," Delta CEO Bastian on the timing of its first 737 MAX 10. Arrival of the 737-10 in 2027 will allow Delta to begin retiring older 757s and 717s, he added.
What's your favorite airline lounge? Mine is somewhere with quite nooks, open spaces, on point design and panoramic views. Terraces a big plus! byerussell.substack.com/p/welcome-to...
Speaking of lounges, Azul's new lounge at Campinas (?) looks very bland and corporate. byerussell.substack.com/p/welcome-to...
Welcome back to @bwiairport.bsky.social, JetBlue. BWI is one of the airline's new routes from Fort Lauderdale where it is rapidly building up to fill the gap left by Spirit's collapse in May.
A friend recently wrote that it's “remarkable how little has changed" in response to a 1998 airline lounge photo I shared. Has lounge design stalled? I've mulled it for months and came to the conclusion: yes, and no. Welcome to lounge world: byerussell.substack.com/p/welcome-to...
NEW: Anko van der Werff is the new CEO of Air Canada, beginning next year. He will step down as CEO of SAS in early 2027.
Mexico's Viva tapped the JOLCO market to finance a new A321neo in May. The structure is uncommon but conveniently allows an airline to finance the full capital costs of an aircraft. www.flightglobal.com/strategy/202... (📷 Airbus)
Some pics of the El Insurgente line that connects CDMX to Toluca under construction last summer — several taken, fittingly, while stuck in traffic.
Just found this pic, United's OG inflight wi-fi installation tracker from 2014. #throwback @airlineflyer.net
For those who don't remember (or never knew) the days before Tanner Park, here's the Met Branch Trail looking south next to the empty lot that became Tanner in 2015. #throwback #bikedc @nomabid.bsky.social
Where I go deep on city, or remote, air terminals. From the West London Air Terminal to New York's Airlines Terminal and Hong Kong’s In-Town Check-In. The new Logan Airport Remote Terminal is the latest incarnation of this historic norm. byerussell.substack.com/p/the-return...
The Logan Airport Remote Terminal at Framingham could just be the just the first of a network of terminals with bag drop and security across the Boston suburbs. One is already in the works in the southern suburb of Braintree. byerussell.substack.com/p/the-return...
Heads up DC, flyovers will occur from 10am to about 1pm today. #washigntondc #avgeek
I love DC's resurgence. This block in NoMa used to be warehouses and empty lots, now it's dense housing and commercial with a farmer's market on Thursdays. Go DC! #washingtondc
The Logan Airport Remote Terminal at Framingham in the Boston suburbs is basic. Or, as @dawngilbertson.bsky.social described it, "makeshift." And that's OK. Read why: byerussell.substack.com/p/the-return...
