Sweden seeing big swing away from right among young voters. At last election 4 years ago, Right-Nationalist bloc held 17-point lead over Left-Green-Center bloc among voters 18-29. In latest poll, that has completely reversed: now 17-point lead for Left-Green-Center. Biggest gain for Greens & Left.

More BBC coverage from Thetford. Since when do professional journalists describe people as "suspected asylum seekers"? That's a word almost exclusively reserved for criminals, and it's hard to imagine the BBC doesn't know that. Would they ever write "suspected journalist" or "suspected lawyer"?
BBC coverage of Thetford case-study in impact of language. "Disorder"? Crowds attempted to break into housing for asylum seekers. That would be violent intimidation. "Anti-immigration"? Are protesters "anti-immigration," or just anti certain immigrants? If so, stop whitewashing their position.

Ännu ett exempel på hur journalister låter sig användas för att ge större spridning åt åsikter som aldrig hade nått ut om de hade stannat på Twitter/X (som knappt någon i Sverige använder). Plattformen är toxisk, men journalister fortsätter ändå att ge den legitimitet.
I’m no military historian, but I’m pretty sure most ”invasions” don’t end with the unarmed people turning around and going home after 48 hours.
Since it’s part of social media logic to report one side of a story, but then leave the context or other side of story if it undermines the narrative, worth noting that Spain’s Interior Ministry reports that as of 6pm Friday, over 48,000 have now returned to Morocco (Guardian).

9) Finally: Self-congratulation. After 2016, many news orgs like WaPo used Trump’s victory to pontificate about importance of journalism to society. Conveniently omitting, of course, how they played a major part in mainstreaming candidates they now say hurt democracy. And look at them now.
5) When CBS boss Les Moonves said Trump may not be good for the US but is "damn good for CBS," it was the most honest explanation imaginable of for-profit journalism. That journalism is a core element of the commercial marketplace it is meant to monitor on behalf of citizens. Basic conflict.
1) White House Correspondents' Dinner highlights wounds US journalism has inflicted upon itself over the past decade (and continues to inflict). Trust in journalism in US is far below trust in Europe & lack of self-critique and arrogance at the core. European journalism should be paying attention.

When covering Sweden intl outlets focus on immigration and right-nationalist Sweden Democrats (SD). SD been around 20% for over decade. More open cooperation w/SD hasn't benefited other right-wing parties. Top two voter issues? Healthcare and Education. Crime/Immigration important, not dominant.
Nigel Farage defines himself as a “man of the people” but it appears that most people in Britain want nothing to do with him. Consider the role of mainstream media — such as the BBC — in giving Farage enormous amounts of oxygen, distorting perceptions of his popularity.
