Non-adventures in the rural Midwest. She/they.
August is here, bringing with it a bunch of conehead katydids. A friend of mine once described these guys as "the forbidden okra" . . .
Omg, check out this fucking impressive big boi scarab beetle! Forget junebugs. We are on to the JULY BUGS now!
Summer nails are this hot pink/red color. I enjoy the shimmery-plastic Barbie accessory feel of this one, but it's not as opaque as I'd like.
One of this year's entries at a local car show seemed absolutely *delighted* to be there.
Today in Cooking to Feel Control of My Life: Lemon blueberry muffins. Albeit, a "diabetic-friendly" recipe with like, wheat flour and almond flour and fake granulated sugar. We'll see.
Then there's these things - I can't look at 'em without thinking, "Have you tried the new Hot Pocket Hot Pocket? It's a Hot Pocket that tastes just like a Hot Pocket."
It's been a rough winter for trying to get the long manicure started again, but figured I should start back in w/ the short nails here. (Mainly 'cause I like this holographic polish.)
Not sure whether to feel approving or apprehensive about this coin pusher machine . . .
Today, in cooking to find the barest thread of comfort and focus in the midst of everything going on: red curry with chicken, squash and green beans.
Tonight in Cooking To Feel Control In My Life: this cashew chicken-ish stew with peanut butter, hot sauce, cabbage, and noodles.
I'm far too big a coward to try it, but I always thought it might be funny to go to a Rocky Horror showing dressed as one of these guys:
From a 1950s high school class photo in rural MN. . . . . . Guys, I think the 'Bobson Dugnutt' people may have been right.
And just for the hell of it, a big field of sunflowers just outside Canby MN.
Belated vacation highlight: Did you know that the cemetery in Wahpeton ND has a big stone tentpole, marking the graves of two circus workers struck by lightning in the 1890s?
8 weeks into the nail-growing project. The polish is called "Choo Choo Choose You," but instead of something silly & befitting the Simpsons reference, it's this borderline-gross iridescent gunmetal color. Like they took "locomotive engine" & interpreted it literally. 😐
Whoa, the fizzing is literal? My best guesses up till now had been either like a pork rind or like this stuff, which is the halfway point between buttered popcorn and fluffy cheetos:
*hums while studying maps for a trip* "I'm afraid of the Interstate. I'm a hick on the road. I'm afraid I can't help it . . ."
Cuticles are sloppy as hell, but I got compliments on the Velveeta yellow nails! (Think I'm gonna use this as an occasional manicure thread. I want to compare progress as I try to grow them out to pandemic length again.)
Got myself an @nora.zone pendant that I only just got around to taking pics of. I love how it looks like the sky. ☺️
Today in Cooking to Feel Control of My Life: trying to do something with the canned butter beans I accidentally bought because they were mixed in with the white beans. Beans cooked w/ diced tomato, spinach, garlic, etc. Fortunately tasty.
Nothing makes me do the sickos "Ha ha . . . YES!" laugh quite like going to a car show and finding the one rusted-out Volkswagen Rabbit in a sea of chrome '50s land yachts.
Today in Cooking to Feel Control of my life: this slow-cooker quinoa/beans/corn/enchilada sauce concoction.
Today in Cooking to Feel in Control of My Life: "I know it's not REAL pasta fazool. Shut up!"
