In a social media post, Donald Trump congratulated the bank and its chief Jane Fraser for being ranked first in deal advisory during the first quarter, despite most of Wall Street’s closely followed league tables placing Citigroup behind Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan.

“Wow! CITI was ranked Number 1 in topping M&A Advisory Market by Value in Q1,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Congratulations to Jane F and ALL of her great people. They’ve worked really hard! BIG comeback for CITI!!!”

It was not immediately clear which ranking Trump was referring to. However, Maria Bartiromo, a prominent Fox Business anchor that Trump follows closely, praised Citi on her show on Wednesday for topping M&A rankings for the power industry, without citing a source. The segment included an interview with Citi’s global chair of banking Leon Kalvaria.

Trump’s post went up about 30 minutes after Bartiromo’s Mornings with Maria ended at 9am.

Regardless of the veracity of the statement, Citi’s stock enjoyed a brief pop after Trump’s praises, rising more than 1 per cent before dropping down into negative territory.

The post prompted confusion and mockery across Wall Street. A rival banker said: “That’s one way to make it at the top of the league tables. Just get Trump to make it up.”

In late December 2019, Everlane employees (most of them in the Customer Experience department) attempted to form a union under the auspices of the Communications Workers of America (CWA).(20] In
March 2020 union members asked to be officially recognized by the company. On March 27, 2020, the union group's Twitter account (@EverlaneU) tweeted, "Nearly every member of our team was just laid off. Retail workers from Everlane stores are being trained to replace us to answer your support
emails. We are devastated beyond measure."[21]
Forty-two out of 57 of the remote customer experience department had been laid off in addition to 180 part-time retail employees, while 68 full-time retail employees were informed they were furloughed. The layoffs were apparently surprising as employees had reportedly been reassured that business was strong. Everlane has since been receiving backlash, most notably from Senator Bernie Sanders, who wrote on his Twitter account
"Using this health and economic crisis to union bust is morally unacceptable." 22]
