Saw the latest flick from Damian McCarthy, the director of the criminally underseen Oddity, at #sxsw last night. It’s called Hokum and takes place in a spooky Irish hotel and once again shows that McCarthy understands suspense and tension better than most genre filmmakers.

Latest #sxsw flick: Pizza Movie starring Gaten Matarazzo, Sean Giambrone, & Lulu Wilson, made by the BriTANicK guys. Imagine the tripping balls sequence from 21 Jump Street but the whole movie. I thought it was hilarious, but I admittedly have the sense of humor of a rowdy 9 year old.

Over Your Dead Body - latest from Jorma Taccone is an absolute blast. Jason Segel and Samara Weaving go to an isolated cabin with plans to kill each other and that’s as normal as the movie gets. Chaotic comedy that somehow is more gory than Evil Dead. Right up my alley.

If you thought Sorry to Bother you was unhinged, wait until you see I Love Boosters. Super funny, full of insane plot twists, and overloaded with delightful what-the-fuck moments. Boots Riley is a madman. #sxsw

Caught Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein on the big screen tonight. What a treat. Sad, romantic, deeply human, and a flat out extraordinary performance from Jacob Elordi.

Don’t know why the hell I have to go all the way to Japan to get a real Jaws section at a Universal Park, but this is so damn cool. And yes, I’m doing the ride later today. Of course I am.

Universal Japan is wild for this one. After his failures on the Fourth of July? Smdh.

Rest in Peace to the great Drew Struzan, a man whose work sparked the imaginations of a whole generation of movie nerds. The master is gone. I had the privilege of visiting him in his studio once and getting to talk shop. Here’s his words on one of his masterpieces:
