Great second half. But we look vulnerable in the air at the back. Maguire should be there. #england #threelions
It seems harsh to describe the entire parliamentary #LabourParty “intellectually arid” as this @thetimes.com leader does. But it does view geopolitics as a spectator sport, rather than as essential to national sovereignty and individual liberty. It is a fatal flaw in Labour’s world view.
He does not have the political clout to move the needle on the defence spending settlement. By definition, @danjarvismp.bsky.social has accepted being the frontman for a disaster of a defence policy, and will be there only as long as #Starmer himself.

Not sure this is the picture Keir #Starmer supporters wanted to expose. #ukpolitics #labour
Mankell was deceptive. Easy to think it’s just ‘he did this, then he did that…’. But then you realise he beautifully dissects the world, whether it be a Latvia trying to escape the legacy of communism or the Boers trying to sabotage the negotiated end to Apartheid. This one’s well worth a read.
Just read the nice review of it in the Literary Review, Nick. And looking forward to reading the book. Congratulations.
Got young people in the house? Try them on this. Lord of the Flies meets Stranger Things. Nice job, @michaelgrantbks.bsky.social!
A brilliant book by Andy Weir. Survival, friendship, and how to ‘science the shit’ out the mother of all problems. Project Hail Mary is a great read!
A great window on the restless adolescent soul, on the relationships of the young with their parents, and on the power and appeal of raw nature. Highly recommended.
I know you wrote this over a decade ago, @aptshadow.bsky.social but it is new to me, and a brilliant piece of work!
Thoroughly enjoyed this. Not international, but interstellar politics, with a good dose of the Cultural Revolution and advanced scientific concepts thrown in. Looking forward to the second book in the trilogy. @liu-cixin.bsky.social
Thoroughly enjoyed this and learned a lot about the history of the Algeria-France relationship in the process.
Really enjoyed this and A Rising Man, @radiomukhers.bsky.social Looking forward to Smoke and Ashes next.
A wonderful book by Andrew Miller. Part whodunnit, part manhunt, part love story, set against the backdrop of the Peninsula Wars. uk.bookshop.org/p/books/now-...
