Ah, after 10,000 years I'm free! It's time to conquer Earth!
The second one was a last minute add, my friend wanted a companion to play in a game of Masks A New Generation, a teenage superhero RPG in the PBTA system. It was excellent but I think a lot of that had to do with the A++ GM and the fantastic table we had. We just vibed together and it was so fun
This was also a big con for me this year, doing more events than I usually do. This included two RPG events. I finally got to try out Pirate Borg, which I liked but was initially nervous about bc I was by myself with anybody I knew and the rest of the players were 6 guys in a group.
So instead of the hotel we ended up gaming on the last night in the stadium, which is one of my favorite things about recent Gen Cons since they've taken over the stadium. It's so fun and because it's so big it's almost eerily quiet even when there's a lot of people
We thought the storm didn't really affect us...until we got back to our hotel. Which had flooded. Water everywhere on the main 2 floors, down to one elevator on one side of the building, and reports of water in halls and guest rooms. Turns out our stuff was fine, so...phew
We were safe in the main hall, all interior space. But the alarm kept going off like every 60 seconds or so. For maybe 20 minutes. Weather service has confirmed it was a real tornado about 10 min drive from the con. Saw these around the very next day, bless the crafters
Also got to demo one of the hot games going into the con, Entropy. It was fun, but the complexity makes it difficult to get to the table with the folks I regularly play with. But it sold out on the first day so I couldn't have bought it anyway.
Got to meet Timothy Zahn again and get my new Thrawn book signed. A cool dude as always, and we chatted briefly about Eli Vanto. I knew the couple behind me had an event to get to across the convention hall and the guy in front of me plopped down like a dozen books to sign so I kept it brief.
Thunder Road Ignition is the new entry point version of one of my favorite games of the last couple years, Thunder Road Vendetta. They're both racing games set in a legally distinct Mad Max world. TRI streamlines the gameplay of TR , gets rid of player elimination, and has a lower price point ($35)
Obligatory haul pic. This year followed the trend of the last few years for me with much fewer games than pre-pandemic. I ended up being interested by smaller, lighter, tighter games (with one obvious exception). These spoke to me more and I'll be able to get them to table easier
Seems to be fully inflated. It knocked a plant over on the key stand but that was corrected. It's pressing into the drum kit but it seems okay?

In case anyone missed the Stardust the Super Wizard Anthology crowdfunding from a couple years back (edited by @vanjensen.bsky.social)...both me and @virginiabarksdale.bsky.social backed it unbeknownst to the other so we ended up with a second copy. DM if interested
The Iron Maiden cover band was excellent, a local band called Eyes of the Nile. Would absolutely see them again, great show, great energy
