Context: I made a bûche de Noël with my mom. The recipe took 9+ hours over three days. I sculpted edible mushrooms, snails, mice and hedgehogs for it using meringue, as finicky and fragile an artistic medium as I’d ever used. If Vance is just not man enough for fudge desserts, that’s on him.

Bûche de Noël, aka Yule Log, a rolled chocolate cake and fudge dessert with chocolate buttercream frosting, dusted with powdered sugar and garnished with meringue mushrooms, snails, mice and hedgehogs.

Megacity One citizen Nobby Klunk discovers the joys of simping – the craze for dressing up in ridiculous outfits to look like an absolute fool – much to the horror of his fiancé Clovis, who looks at her husband-to-be with unconcealed disgust as he has shown up to their wedding wearing a carrot nose, thick goggles and a canoe, and is dripping wet.
NOBBY: Simping really works! Those juves would have passed me by and never even noticed me before today. But now – you saw ’em, honey! They couldn’t keep their hands off me. They saw right away I was somebody!

My yard is afflicted by the Sunbane but the native wildflowers we cultivated are doing pretty well. Hardly any of my favorite bluebonnets. :/ But my second favorites, the lemon bee balm (the lavender ones), are performing! They smell *great* and bees love them.

I opened my app store to do updates and I dunno what designer/exec thought this pulsing, glowing ring was great, but it has the most sinister vibes of anything to appear on my phone screen in the last four months Weyland-Yutani has friendlier branding

Henry the Puffy Taco, the much beloved and respected unofficial mascot of the San Antonio Missions baseball team, running the bases while being chased and tackled by a child. Henry the Puffy Taco is always caught before finishing, except for one time decades ago when he completed his run by accident. The child who failed to catch him was my cousin, who recently gave a radio interview about this now legendary incident.

Another BOGUS JOURNEY scene had the Evil Robot Bill & Ted ripping off their disguises, a bizarre (great) joke I was certain had been cut before filming. After a friend bought the B&T trading cards we discovered no, it *had* been filmed! (I liked the original/comic ending better too. 😁)

Today I went to my local comic shop to pick up my preordered copy of @evandorkin.bsky.social’s Nerd Inferno collection! It’s surprisingly heavy (premium paper!) and contains one of my most favorite panels from comics’ most quotable writer. It’s the reason I say “pish-tosh, my good man” to this day:

The Biltmore House has a rooftop observatory. The huge library has busts of great French thinkers and original Dürer prints. There are family portraits by John Singer Sargent. It has an indoor heated pool with underwater electric lights *original to the house*, which was finished in 1895!

On the right atop the bookcase are marble busts of great French writers — but not Voltaire, since Vanderbilt was quite religious and did not like him.

Original print of the Rhinocerus by Albrecht Dürer from 1515, framed and hanging in the Biltmore House. One of the Northern Renaissance master’s most famous prints, it was made to capitalize on the gift of this exotic animal, the first rhino seen in Europe since the Roman Empire, to the Papal menagerie. Strikingly accurate, it was made by Dürer having never seen the animal, but from interviewing a man who had.

The enormous formal dining hall of the Biltmore House, with its four story tall vaulted ceiling and hearth large enough to walk inside. Designed to impress and intimidate even European royalty, above the second story it features hunting trophies, life-size statues of people, and hanging flags of many nations.

The heated illuminated indoor swimming pool on the lower level of the Biltmore house, built into its foundations in 1891. It is lined on all sides with white tile, including the vaulted ceiling, and has a sloped floor on one side and a ladder and platform on the other. A walkway with safety ropes skirts the left and far side of the room, connecting the shallow and deep ends. Now kept drained, it is easy to see the covered, protected electric lights that illuminated the water from beneath. The house was finished in 1895, the same year George Westinghouse completed the Niagara Falls hydropower plant.
