I have been an artist and writer for a long time.
This gives me a reason to post some of the finest #cosplay I have ever seen, which I got a photo of at A-Kon Dallas in 2014 (when iPhone cameras were not as great). You can't even see Jack Spicer's equally accurate backpack! #XiaolinShowdown
Context: I made a bûche de Noël with my mom. The recipe took 9+ hours over three days. I sculpted edible mushrooms, snails, mice and hedgehogs for it using meringue, as finicky and fragile an artistic medium as I’d ever used. If Vance is just not man enough for fudge desserts, that’s on him.
I didn’t know you ever worked for Advanced Idea Mechanics. didja get a ray gun thing or was it more like lab work
My yard is afflicted by the Sunbane but the native wildflowers we cultivated are doing pretty well. Hardly any of my favorite bluebonnets. :/ But my second favorites, the lemon bee balm (the lavender ones), are performing! They smell *great* and bees love them.
welcome back! I share with you a comic panel we have been quoting for decades, for obv reasons 😁
Margaret Kelley shooting reference footage for Disney’s PETER PAN (1953)
I opened my app store to do updates and I dunno what designer/exec thought this pulsing, glowing ring was great, but it has the most sinister vibes of anything to appear on my phone screen in the last four months Weyland-Yutani has friendlier branding
The implications of instant soul-killing mediocrity untouched by human hands are debated to model collapse in Artificial Intelligence by ActiveObjectX (Nate Ziller). It’s not just stupidity being forced down our throats—it’s the FUTURE! NG www.newgrounds.com/series/ai YT youtube.com/playlist?lis...
Name your fav portrayal of the devil in film. And who wouldn’t trust this silver-tongued young fellow? Such a helpful sort, and he always seems to know just what everyone wants.
arguably better than being the taco that must always be tackled by children San Antonio has a rich and vibrant culture
Derum is a yellow cat. Zern is an average consumer. They share a house and try to get through life by buying things in @blitzjamzone.bsky.social’s anarchic Derum and Zern. Keen-eyed viewers may spot the occasional pop culture reference! www.newgrounds.com/playlist/499... youtube.com/playlist?lis...
like @doronjosama.bsky.social said, UK comics legends Pat Mills & Kevin O’Neill did the idea first (& best imo) in MARSHAL LAW – which started when Ennis was 17, two years before his first pub’d story. It’s the source of two of my favorite reaction jpegs!
Another BOGUS JOURNEY scene had the Evil Robot Bill & Ted ripping off their disguises, a bizarre (great) joke I was certain had been cut before filming. After a friend bought the B&T trading cards we discovered no, it *had* been filmed! (I liked the original/comic ending better too. 😁)
thanks to Evan Dorkin I have been using “pish-tosh, my good man” since the early 90s
The world is ruled by titanic intelligent insects & arachnids who deal with the intricate politics of their clans and a dangerous human infestation in the exciting & heavily researched Humans-B-Gone! by Rev Storm (@humansbgone.bsky.social)! NG: www.newgrounds.com/playlist/427... YT: t.co/z23unvK8oy
One $1.25 switch and some tools and half an hour later my old Ikea nightstand lamp flares back to life. :) One unexpected result of our society’s descent into rentier capitalism is amplification of my urge to repair any broken property. It was always pretty strong tho. I love taking stuff apart!
Today I went to my local comic shop to pick up my preordered copy of @evandorkin.bsky.social’s Nerd Inferno collection! It’s surprisingly heavy (premium paper!) and contains one of my most favorite panels from comics’ most quotable writer. It’s the reason I say “pish-tosh, my good man” to this day:
Skip the flavor text and watch young hero Arke mismanage his inventory and irk his mentor Zush in the thrilling adventure game world of X QUEST by @heyiamtsuyo.bsky.social! It’s the most fun you can have between loading screens! NG www.newgrounds.com/series/x-quest YT youtube.com/playlist?lis...
Shout out to a superb voice actor: his hulking, vicious, erudite, animated-by-TMS pirate is my favorite Hook, and Worthington Dubois is one of my favorite bits of stunt casting.
One of my few regrets is that XXXenophile ended without me ever getting a chance to ink one of @thephilfoglio.bsky.social's stories for it. Sure the inkers usually outclassed me in every way (okay I'm not Steve Bissette GEEZE) but being a giant fan since Dragon Magazine should count for something! 😄
lifelong San Antonio resident here, yes it is. now let me tell you about the beloved founder of our largest grocery chain
What’s this just arrived in the post? Why, it’s the firm, thick slab of the XXXenophile Omnibus, collecting @thephilfoglio.bsky.social’s long run of excellent adult comics! (shown here with actual dinosaur for scale) Phil’s comics are highly entertaining and I’m glad to receive it! 😁👍
The hapless crew of a run-down bowling alley eventually does some work in the animated Australian documentary series Day Job by @georghiou2d.bsky.social. Turns out management and employees are *both* the problem! NG: www.newgrounds.com/series/day-job YT youtube.com/playlist?lis...
The Biltmore House has a rooftop observatory. The huge library has busts of great French thinkers and original Dürer prints. There are family portraits by John Singer Sargent. It has an indoor heated pool with underwater electric lights *original to the house*, which was finished in 1895!
A stray memory searches for meaning and its name amid an existential mindscape in Undoes Rust by musician/animator @unangazord.bsky.social. The past is a puzzle that lacks substance, but looking at it directly can still hurt. NG www.newgrounds.com/series/undoe... YT youtube.com/playlist?lis...
