Thoughts: I'm hooked. It's official, I love Stephen King and I'll be going back for more. TW: this story starts off with a horrific school tragedy. It is written in a way that reminds me a lot of Silence of the Lambs but with a supernatural twist. The slow burning suspense juxtaposed with the mundane minutiae of the character's lives left me equally invested in the outcome of the plot and the wellbeing of the characters. I was biting my nails through the whole thing and will no go back and read the Bill Hodges Trilogy and The Outsiders.

Set The Mood: watch the news first

Suggested Audience: Anyone who loved the Hannibal Lector books from Thomas Harris

Raves: underdog FMC, enigmatic protagonist,

Icks: although a standalone, this book references so many previous books I feel like I should have read them first.

As an avid hiker/ camper | really wanted to connect with this story but ! don't think I was the right audience. I can understand why some people find this suspenseful and captivating but ! was kind of bored with it. I found it difficult to identify with the main character, a nine year old girl. As she struggled her way through the forest ! struggled to empathize. Although the descriptions of her experiences are detailed and colorful, I didn't feel the stress or anxiety l imagine he was trying to convey. Maybe I've spent too much time alone in the forest to be scared by it at this point in my life.

If you liked the earlier MCU movies- give this a go. Or not.

THOUGHTS:
I'm warning you now that this ends with a huge cliffhanger and Netflix has not confirmed the third. The first movie told such a great story, and wrapped up well enough to leave me satisfied. The second is good- not as good as the first but its the second of a trilogy so l cut it some slack. But the end?!?!?! I'm mad now. I have not read the comics, but I'm going to have to - I need to know more. I likely would have rated this higher if I knew we were going to get the third movie (since the comics are a trilogy). Netflix and I are going to fight if they keep picking things up they don't have a solid plan to finish.

Rating: 3.5

Thoughts: If you love Ready Player One this is a solid sequel. The same characters we love, tons of 80s references, more backstory on Halliday and Morrow, and of course a riddle to be solved. The pacing starts really slowly, but just like the first book once it starts moving you better buckle up. I wouldn't rate this as highly as I did Ready Player One, but I definitely consider it worth the read.
