Late to this - as per usual - but what an incredible film. The ratcheting up of tension again and again. No spoilers but the climax is almost an anticlimax after such a build up. In my head Dorothy Vallens life has taken a turn to become Sister Agnes - played perfectly by Isabella Rossellini 👌

Saw a beautiful sight last night. An enormous slug was on our kitchen step (that's not the beautiful bit) and suddenly one of my fave little oval shadows crept lowdown past the step. Stopped, little nose sniffing the air and then pawed down the slug for a late night feast 🖤 *not that hog

Perfect summary of her character here from Isabella Rossellini, and what an incredible film 🖤 There’s a kind of optimism to the 90s interviews that I feel was lost later on. Understandably. Why do we often revere great work long after it’s released?

In approaching Blue Velvet, and the part of nightclub singer Dorothy Vallens, Isabella Rossellini points to aspects of Lynch rarely discussed in the heat of such debates: A lot of people thought it was sick, but for me it always represented the research in David of the good and the bad. He's quite a religious person.
Quite spiritual. Any person who is religious is always trying to define these things, which are always so elusive. I think that's the core of his film-making:
Her own interpretation of Vallens's sado-masochistic nature is of interest for its basis in certain 'real situations - something she never discussed in detail with Lynch. 'In my mind she was a battered woman - someone who perhaps had Stockholm Syndrome. But you can't play that literally. David's films are more of a sensation than a story. They're not anthropological or psychological researches into character. They're surreal impressions. Things are very tran-scendental. Blue Velvet has to do with a profound moral dilemma. That's why the story is surreal. Dorothy masks herself because she is afraid of what she looks like. She's shy and hates herself. The wigs and the make-up and everything was because she wanted to look like a doll - perfect - to hide ner madness. The more she becomes a victim not to elicit sexuality, the more she does. I played her that way: everything she did turned out to be something she didn't mean!'

Our cinema in Bridgnorth with art deco plasterwork details. Built in 1937 and due to be knocked down in the next few years. I understand that a lot of the interior will be saved for a new build two screen cinema🤞 And the film wasn’t so bad either, The Odyssey.

Clover and Self-heal covered our lawn yesterday after days when it was too hot to cut the grass - me, I’d have left it. A large patch has been left though. Bee clips to follow but sadly there are a fraction of what there were just a few years ago.
