The same aircon condenser unit can be used by house martins and Eurasian crag martins as a place to rest 😊 #birds
Lecture by Rama Cont on the mathematical foundations of diffusion models. Both rigorous and crystal clear, wow!
Talk by Michael Jordan @ Statistics and Learning Theory Summer School, Aghveran. Question from the audience: "Is it related to Bayesian statistics." Immediate answer: "Everything is related to Bayesian statistics!" armxss.com/slt2026/#intro
Aghveran, Armenia. The "Statistics and Learning Theory Summer School" is about to start. I'm super excited!! I'll teach 3 sessions on variational stuff, PAC-Bayes etc armxss.com/slt2026/
Black-crowned night heron @ Toyocho, Tokyo #birds (I'm no longer in Japan, just posting a few more photos I took there)
Grey heron @ Ara river, Tokyo #birds (Actually, there are two grey herons in this image, but the second one is almost invisible)
First days out of the nest... Black-crowned night heron, Toyocho, Tokyo #Birds
Introduction to the activities of Toyota Konpon and Toyota Central R&D. Quite fascinating how many Japanese companies (Toyota, Sony, etc.) have pure research labs, with great freedom or research, in addition to their R&D teams (and really independent of them, even though they collaborate).
The French name, "aigrette sacrée" = "holy egret" is equally misleading as all egrets are holy 😇
Pacific reef egret, Onna, Okinawa #birds Called クロサギ in Japanese (kurosagi = black heron... OK this one is white, but 50% of them are black indeed)
First two talks of the workshop. Frank Nielsen took shots of mine and I'm taking photos of his.
Just arrived in OIST in Okinawa this morning, for the workshop "Information Theory in Modern Science". Beautiful (as usual!) and I already met a (white) Pacific reef heron
"Your face is so blue, dad. Am I going to have a younger sister or brother?" "Errr, shut up and take your bath."
By th way, I don't think I already observe that deep blue color at the beginning of the beak of the adult night heron. It's a common breeding color for grey herons and great egrers... @everyheron.bsky.social
I felt honoured to be appointed as a last minute chair for the session on Bayesian quantum statistics, that was super interesting. Talks by Jun Suzuki, Masahito Hayashi and Cristina Butucea.
Strategic mobile unit for fish population monitoring and eating them, aka great egret (Nagoya). #birds

ISBA -- Bayarri Lecture by Daniele Durante: "Skew-symmetric representations of posterior densities". Super elegant work.
