This isn't the first time Trump has suggested he's divine — it's just the first time he's done it while also tremendously unpopular. Part of holding his enablers accountable is not falling for it the second they backtrack.
CPR's Alex Klass and Dave Owen co-authored a new essay in the Michigan Law Review Online that examines the history and current use of presidential emergency powers on energy, which was mentioned @insideclimatenews.org. insideclimatenews.org/news/0904202...

Opposition targeted: There was little cross-party support during SOTU 2026. Some Democratic representatives protested that Trump’s government has killed Americans, and others (including their guests) were forcibly removed.
On the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles: More (thinly) veiled racist threats. Trump says, “We’ll do a good job there,” and he has established a task force to “ensure that Los Angeles will be ‘safe.’” We’ve already seen what authoritarians mean when they say “safe.”
Immigration & ICE: Trump doubled down on white supremacist ideology, singling out Somali immigrants in Minnesota as “pirates” and blaming them for housing shortages and inflation. There are hardly any words for this racism. Well, here’s one: Gross.
The SOTU fell broadly into three parts: economy, immigration, and foreign policy. Per usual, his speech was heavy on the word count and light on facts — very much in line with the authoritarian style of government we’re already witnessing.
The EmPOWER Maryland energy efficiency program reduces our utility bills, harmful pollution, and demand on the energy grid. That’s worth defending! Tell our legislators to protect EmPOWER from attacks this session by filling out a brief form at this link: bit.ly/protectempower
