The Zimmerman (which I’d never heard before) and Dvorak’s 7th (which I had) were well-executed and held my attention adequately, but it was Alina Ibragimova’s exquisite violin playing in Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto that held the whole room utterly rapt. An amazing experience live #bbcproms
They’ve done it again! The wonderful Aurora Orchestra brought Mahler 1 to life with their music lesson/mini-play and then an amazing performance from memory. Always a highlight of #bbcproms and this year was no exception
I came for the Bruch Violin Concerto - which was wonderful - and stayed for Schumann 4 - which was energetic and elegant - but was BLOWN AWAY by the extraordinary performance of Haydn 44 tonight at #bbcproms by Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and conductor (/performer) Omer Meir Wellber. Wow…
A rare #bbcproms where I actually didn’t really enjoy any of the three pieces. No shade on the performers, who were excellent, but the material just didn’t speak to me

Mum - amazingly - managed to make her Yuzu tree fruit this year, so we tried a Yuzu Lychee Martini for the Christmas cocktail this year. I can confirm it’s bloody delicious

Birthday dinner - my gift to myself - of fillet steak with homemade Béarnaise sauce, proper chips and ketchup and green beans (as much as a palate cleanser as anything else). Washed down with a big glass of a good red. Paradise

#Silksong completed. Or rather, default “Weaver Queen” ending achieved. Four others I understand to find. I did this playthrough almost entirely blind - looked literally two things up when I couldn’t work out what to do - and it’s been a brutally hard, totally mesmerising experience. 72.5 hours…

Eighth and final visit to the #bbcproms for this year and it was a good ‘un. An all-French programme culminated with Saint-Saëns’ gloriously bombastic 3rd (Organ) Symphony. The last movement, absolutely blasted out on the immense RAH organ, was pure exuberance and joy
A “bucket list” experience - hearing András Schiff playing Bach’s Art of the Fugue, music that transcends, ascends and touches something deep in the human soul. Utterly spellbinding #bbcproms this morning. A privilege to have been present
An absolute triumph of a #bbcproms by the amazing Aurora Orchestra. Shostakovich’s 5th Symphony broken down and analysed; and then performed in full, from memory. Just a stunning evening. Aurora are a must-see each year. They promise so much - and deliver
Back after a week of holiday, tonight the programme is just one piece - Mahler’s 3rd Symphony, the longest in the standard repertoire. 1.5 hours, six movements… let’s see what it’s like! #bbcproms
